He’s the longest-tenured head coach in the National Football League. While Bill Belichick has been at the helm for the New England Patriots dating back to 2000, Andy Reid has been a sideline leader in the league since 1999. The successful teacher spent 14 seasons in the City of Brotherly Love before taking over in Kansas City in 2013.
Including playoffs, Reid owns a combined 268-154-1 win-loss record with the Philadelphia Eagles (140-102-1) and Chiefs (128-52-0). Only four men have more head-coaching victories: Don Shula (347), Bill Belichick (329), George Halas (324) and Tom Landry (270). Reid’s resume includes a 21-16 postseason mark and only Belichick (31) has more playoff wins.
On Super Bowl Sunday at Glendale, Arizona, the 64-year-old head coach faces off against his one-time employer. It will be the second straight season that the Eagles and Chiefs will square off. In Week 4 of the 2021 regular-season, Reid’s club came away with a 42-30 victory at Philadelphia. Both Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts put up big numbers in the entertaining clash.

However, the bottom line is that there’s not a lot of history between these two franchises. In fact, this will be only the 10th time these franchises will clash. The Eagles and Chiefs first met in 1972 and then didn’t play again until 1992. And it’s safe to say that the biggest common denominator in this interconference series is Reid. When the clubs collide on Super Sunday, he will be a head coach for the seventh time in this setting.

For those who love a little trivia, consider this. While he was the head coach of the Eagles from 1999-2012, Reid was a perfect 3-0 vs. Kansas City. Meanwhile, as the leader of the Chiefs dating back to 2013, he owns a 3-0 mark vs. Philadelphia.
Of course, if you are looking for some common denominators between this season’s squads, look no further than the overall standings. Including the postseason, both the Chiefs and Eagles bring combined 16-3 records into those contests. That includes perfect 5-0 marks in interconference games in 2022.
Could Super Bowl LVII see a combined 72 points scored, as was the case when these franchises met in Philadelphia last season? It would hardly be a surprise.
