Potential Landing Spots For Jimmy Garoppolo

Patrick Mahomes isn’t the only active quarterback with two or more Super Bowl championships to his name.

That’s right. Soon-to-be former 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is also the owner of two Super Bowl rings, albeit, as a backup to Tom Brady but two rings nonetheless. And now, that two-time Super Bowl champion is set to be a free agent as he says bye to San Francisco and hello to the third team of his career.

Who will be eager to sign Garoppolo? Here are some potential landing spots for the former Patriot and 49er.

New York Jets

The Jets need a quarterback. Stop me if you have heard this before. However, unlike in years past, the quarterback is just about the only position this team needs to upgrade. Entering his third season, Zach Wilson is just not the answer for Robert Saleh and the organization has already recognized the error in drafting him. Now, there is no Tom Brady on the open market this year but adding a veteran like Jimmy Garoppolo could help stabilize the franchise and give them a push toward the playoffs. Assuming, of course, Garoppolo stays healthy. It helps he has a connection with Saleh from their days in San Francisco.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jimmy Garoppolo was drafted in the second round of the 2014 Draft by the New England Patriots to eventually replace the then 35-year-old Tom Brady. Brady led the Patriots to the Super Bowl that year and in 2016 and Garoppolo was the odd-man-out, getting shipped to San Francisco where he had some success, leading the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2019. Now, in a bit of irony, could Garoppolo finally replace Brady, not in New England, but in Tampa Bay?

Another connection for Garoppolo and one that is a little closer to home is with Josh McDaniels and the Las Vegas Raiders. Of course, Garoppolo and McDaniels were together in New England where they won a pair of Super Bowls. Vegas decided to move on from Derek Carr and seek another franchise quarterback. Now, Garoppolo will not be a significant upgrade over Carr but an upgrade nonetheless. And certainly, someone who McDaniels wants.
