- Bryce Young could be the best quarterback to play in Tuscaloosa. In three seasons, the five-foot-ten, 204-pound Young rewrote both the record books and stacked the trophy case. Young claimed the 2021 Heisman, Davey O’Brien Award, Maxwell, and Manning Awards. Not to mention, all-SEC nods and Player Of The Year awards up and down college football. Young completed 65.8 percent of his passes. Additionally, he tacked on eighty-five touchdowns to just twelve interceptions. The Alabama quarterback added seven touchdowns on the ground, giving the Crimson Tide a complete quarterback. In the elite SEC, Young stayed at the top of the mountain. Many see him as the probable first overall selection.

Strengths
The film shows Young as an elite passer with a natural feel. With ease, Young shifts the pocket, scanning through his progressions, at all three levels. Young’s eyes will not birddog a wideout, allowing a defender to key in on the targets. Instead, he moves the safety with a glance, baiting corners with the look off. Plus, with the prestidigitation of a magician, Young’s ball handling help sells the play-action. Despite his smallish frame, the prospect not only displays excellent arm strength but the velocity on those particular throws. Also, Young doesn’t need to wind up and heave. Instead, the ball flies off his hand with a tight spiral. Moreover, the accuracy at all three levels marries itself to the arm talent. Young displays a knack for getting the corner and turning broken plays into chunk yardage. His athleticism will pressure defenses all game long. The future first overall draft pick this spring.
Weaknesses
For all of the Combine followers, that live for measuring tape, Young isn’t a conventionally sized quarterback. Regardless of tape and accolades, the less-than-six-foot frame holding 204 pounds scares some. How will Young survive the rigors of the NFL season? With three-hundred-pound linemen that run like like tight ends, can he sustain his level of excellence over a seventeen-game schedule? Plus, playing in Alabama meant ideal weather with only rain to stand in the way. How will he deal with the elements? Overall, a few weaknesses litter Young’s game.

Ideal Role
From the moment the commissioner calls his name, Bryce Young will be the face of his franchise. More importantly, he will be the face of the new generation. Off the field, Young comports himself with equal parts humility, respect, and confidence. On the field, he will be the unquestioned leader of his team, commanding both respect and praise. Young’s high intellect and poise under pressure translate to someone capable of leading a team for upwards of a decade or more. Granted, critics will see his lack of size as a giant flaw. However, Drew Brees and Russell Wilson excelled despite lacking what many consider prototypical size. Now, the team that drafts Young must construct an offense that utilizes his talents and is specifically geared for him. While that sounds obvious, remember the NFL employs people that will do the exact opposite.
Potential Fits
As this profile started, the Carolina Panthers acquired the number-one overall pick for a slew of draft capital and D.J. Moore. Under those circumstances, drafting anyone but Bryce Young with the first overall pick feels foolish. The Panthers need just about everything offensively. Owner David Tepper allowed Scott Fitterer, the general manager to gut the team, shipping all manner of assets. Frank Reich, long lauded as an offensive genius must construct an offense that suits Youg and his diverse skillset. Carolina must spend to replace Moore. With free agency just a few days away, Carolina needs to find a couple of receivers, another running back, and a competent tight end. To their credit, they traded to put themselves in a prime position to build around Bryce Young. Their future starts now. Will Young be the one?
