WWE knows how to put on a production, so Wrestlemania is the grandest event in all of entertainment. Wrestlemania 39 was live from So-Fi Stadium in Los Angeles, California as Wrestlemania Went Hollywood for the second time.
Like the several previous editions of Wrestlemania, it was a two-night event. On Saturday, April 1st, Night 1 of Wrestlemania 39 kicked off. Right before the show went on air it was announced the WWE Undisputed Tag Tag Team Title match featuring Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens taking on The Usos was going to be the Main Event. This was the right decision as the storyline involving the Bloodline, Zayn, and Owens had a year-long build. We can get more into that in another article.
But everyone was there to see the culmination of this storyline. However, this was not the only match on the card that delivered. Rhea Ripley versus Charlotte Flair for the Smackdown’s Women’s Title along with Logan Paul versus Seth Rollins, Rey Mysterio versus Dominik Mysterio, and of course the opener John Cena taking on Austin Theory for the United States Championship.
The main event delivered in every way with Jimmy and Jey taking on Sami and Kevin. From the start the storytelling between Jey and Sami was excellent. The Usos showed why they are the best tag team in WWE. The way the Usos just worked on Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn made you think about who was going to win this thing. The crowd was behind every kick out by Zayn and Owens. Even Michael Cole and Corey Graves, who were on commentary could not believe it.
The Usos pulled out all the stops wearing down Sami Zayn inside the ring and Kevin Owens outside the ring. You almost wondered if it was too much for Zayn and Owens to overcome. Every little counter or comeback was countered as we saw the Uso Penitentiary in full force. However, the crowd was going to go home happy as everyone knew Owens and Zayn were going to win the Tag Team Titles. Three helluva kicks later and new champs were crowned. What a way to finish the show.

You were interested to see how WWE was going to follow up the main event was an instant classic between Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley. Another long storyline told over several years. The last time these two women faced off at Wrestlemania, Charlotte beat Rhea for the NXT Women’s Championship. Now it was Ripley’s turn to get the victory.
The fans were into this match as well. Both ladies could not believe they did not win at certain points. A brilliant story told with a so-so build. In the end, it took an Avalanche Riptide and Ripley was the first woman ever to beat Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania. Like in the main event, the story came full circle.

Wrestlemania 39 kicked off with a great montage from Kevin Hart. The stage this year was even better than the last time Wrestlemania was in LA back in 2005. Austin Theory and John Cena kicked things off for the United States Title. This was a fun match between these two men. Theory got the victory over Cena, but the way it was done got me thinking these two may have another match down the line.
The men’s showcase match was next and boy this was a fun multi-person match. Everyone got their moves in and we saw big men actually can fly. The Street Profits got the win in an excellent match.
Look what can you say about Logan Paul and Seth Rollins. Paul, maybe the most hated around, but boy is he a good athlete in the ring and such a natural in the business. Logan Paul if he wanted to can be a full-time WWE superstar. There were great spots, especially from Paul who hit KSI with a frog splash from the ring post. Rollins got the victory and held up the honour of the WWE locker room. Both men had great entrances to this one.
Another standout match was Dominik Mysterio versus Rey Mysterio. Dominik came out like a convict released from prison wearing a Lucha mask and a similar outfit to Rey’s Halloween Havoc suit from 1996. The newly crowned Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio came out with Snoop Dog in a low rider. He played Eddie Guerrero’s theme song right before his as Rey and Dominik told an excellent story in the ring. A son’s disrespect and a father fighting for his family’s honour. In the end, Rey Mysterio got the win thanks to an assist from Bad Bunny.
Even the six-woman tag team match delivered with Trish Stratus, Lita and Becky Lynch taking on Iyo Sky, Dakota Kai, and Bayley. It was good to see Trish and Lita back at Mania. While there were some sloppy spots, Trish looked like she could still work. Not to mention, Bayley and Trish is a great feud. In the end, the heels get another loss. Let’s see how they build them back up.
For the most part, the fans went home happy. Even George Kittle and Pat McAfee got involved on Night 1 of Wrestlemania. Overall it was a good way to kick off Wrestlemania Weekend.
Let’s see if Night 2 can deliver as well considering what we have seen from ROH, NXT, and now Night 1 of Wrestlemania 39.
