The New York Mets are now 5-5 on the season. Some will say, it’s a long season. It’s 162 games. Got it. The problem is if you ever want to beat the Atlanta Braves and actually win the division and get all the advantages of that you must keep pace. And they’re not and the Braves lost their ace to an injury as well.
The Curious Case of Eduardo Escobar
2023 is a new season. Escobar had a great last month of last season but can’t live off that forever. This season, he’s already fifth in the league in leaving runners on base. He blew a bases-loaded situation on Sunday and he left six on base in that game. Brett Baty is doing very well in AAA and he happens to play third base. Escobar is hitting .125, how much longer can you keep him in there? If they wait until June because of a service time issue, that’s very shortsighted for a team with championship aspirations.
Jordan Walker Has Lit It Up in St. Louis
The Cardinals rookie has a hit in his first nine ball games. That’s a big deal. This is the longest streak of a player 20 or younger to start a season since “Teddy Ballgame”, the Splendid Splinter, Ted Williams. Wow. That was back in 1939. We will certainly be tracking this but I think it’s interesting for sure. If he can make it ten games, that’s going to hold up for a very long time.

Nolan Arenado Is a First Ballot Hall of Famer
The Cardinals’ third baseman, who won ten-consecutive gold glove awards in his first ten seasons just hit his 300th home run. His next milestone will be 1,000 career RBIs. At 31, he has a chance to catch Mike Schmidt who is the career leader for home runs at the hot corner with 515. Schmidt hit 548 overall but it will depend on how long Arenado plays at the hot corner and how many times he may play at DH in the interim.

Phillies NL Championship Rings Might Be A Bit Too Much
This seems a bit too much with a 13.5-carat diamond ring as the MLB runner-up for 2022. The ring has diamonds, rubies, and sapphires but I ask the question. If you have Mike Schmidt in a bar, and Bryce Harper, whose ring are you going to put on your hand in a picture? It’s Schmidt, it’s not about the size, it’s because he won. Nice rings guys, it’s a great keepsake, but it’s way over the top.
