In our 2023 Chicago Bears Mock Draft, general manager Ryan Poles gives Justin Fields the help he sorely needs to succeed.
The start of the 2023 NFL Draft is less than two weeks away. Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles is busy finalizing all of his moves. He knows which prospects he wants to go after. Additionally, he wants to go over certain situations and how to react to them. Prospects he likes but who would likely be gone before he picks might slide. That would make them available.
We have seen plenty of draft analysts come up with a number of scenarios for the Bears. They should pick up this prospect or that one. There is a plethora of mock drafts all over the internet.
While we do not know what Poles will do, we do know that this will be an impactful draft. From the moment Poles took over as general manager of the Chicago Bears, he prepared for this moment.
One of the priorities in 2023 is helping quarterback Justin Fields develop even more. He took giant strides last season. Still, he took a lot of criticism for not being the passer many people want him to be. To be fair, he did not have the targets or the protection he needed to do that.
Poles hopes to change that in 2023. He already brought in a dozen free agents. A lot of them are on the offensive side of the ball. In addition, he acquired wide receiver D.J. Moore to help Fields. Add him to tight end Robert Tonyan and offensive guard Nate Davis and things are looking up for Fields.
Now Poles gets Fields even more help. He gets him more targets and some protection. he also helps shore up the defense, but getting Fields his help is the priority.
Note: There will almost certainly be a few trades made by Poles. We won’t have any trades in this mock, however.
Here is Full Press Coverage’s Chicago Bears Mock Draft:
Round 1, #9: Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia
Jalen Carter is one of those prospects who are generational talents. He helped the Bulldogs win back-to-back championships. His stock took a hit after the National Championship game when he was involved in a drag race that resulted in the death of his teammate and a Georgia staffer.
Carter took care of his legal trouble, however, and is again focused on his career. There are reports that if Carter drops to nine, he will not go any further.
Round 2, #53: Jaeyln Duncan, OT, Maryland
Should Carter go earlier in the first round Poles likely picks up offensive lineman Paris Johnson. Since Carter was available, Poles selects the tackle Fields needs in the second round in Jaelyn Duncan.
Duncan has not been linked to the Bears but he would be a great choice. He is 6-foot-5 and weighs 305 pounds and is an excellent athlete, quick and light-footed off the snap. He quickly closes the gap and squares up defenders. While not many people had him in mind, he’d be a great pick.
Round 2, #61: Will McDonald, EDGE, Maryland
While he wants to help Fields, Poles cannot forget about the defense. He gets his defensive tackle in the first round and now gets his edge rusher here.
The Bears were awful with their pass rush in 2022. Will McDonald helps improve that in 2023. At 6-foot-3, 239 pounds he has the size to do well. His athleticism is through the roof. He has explosiveness, agility, and flexibility. Additionally, he has a high motor and just keeps coming.
Round 3, #64: Marvin Mims, WR, Oklahoma
Fields gets another target in Marvin Mims. Poles looks into the future with this pick. Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool become free agents at the end of the season. The Bears could lose one or both of them so Poles needs someone already there to help.
Mims has what Poles and the coaching staff want — speed. They feel speed kills. It makes the defense tense and forces mistakes. He is explosive and puts his 4.38-40 time to good use. He runs good routes and creates separation, something the Bears’ wide receivers corps lacked last season.
Round 4, #103: Sam LaPorta, Tight End, Iowa
The Chicago Bears have Cole Kmet, who had a breakout season last year in terms of touchdowns. They also signed Tonyan. However, both of them are due to be free agents after 2023.
Iowa has done a good job of producing tight ends in the NFL. That continues with Sam LaPorta. He has good explosiveness going downfield. Also, he has the ability to change gears fluidly.
LaPorta has good agility and body control on his 6-foot-3, 245-pound frame. He has quick feet and surprises defenders with his speed.

Round 4, #133: Myles Brooks, CB, Louisiana Tech
The Bears spent the last few years trying to solidify the secondary. Poles used his first two picks on the secondary. While the Bears have Kyler Gordon and Jaylon Johnson as corners, they could use another bona fide starter.
Myles Brooks does that.
Tell me if you notice a pattern here. Brooks is another good athlete with explosiveness. This is something the Chicago Bears brass covets.
At 6-foot-0, 201 pounds, Brooks is built like a wide receiver. He can stay with any receiver step-by-step and can dominate at the catch point. Additionally, he tracks the ball well and has excellent body control.
Round 5, #136: Jordan McFadden, OT, Clemson
The Bears get more protection for Fields with Jordan McFadden. Poles drafted four offensive linemen last year and still has three of them. The more players you have on the line, the better chance you have of having a good unit.
McFadden could be a great backup for the tackles. He has good lean mass and strength. He is good at both run and pass blocking, coming off the snap quickly and centering the defender.
McFadden gets his hands into the defender’s chest quickly and with a good pop. Furthermore, he is able to climb to the second level quickly and in control.
Round 5, #148, Trey Dean, S, Florida
Another pick to solidify the secondary. With an influx of very good quarterbacks in the league, the secondary is an important unit. The Bears have Eddie Jackson and Jaquan Brisker as starters. They could use a good backup.
Trey Dean has top-100 talent but has not put it all together yet. At Florida, he has trouble communicating and processing at times. However, he has good, raw talent. At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, he can also play some at cornerback. He can cover tight ends well and take care of receivers with his athleticism.
If the coaches can develop that talent Dean could be a steal.
Round 7, #218: Mohamed Ibrahim, RB, Minnesota
The Chicago Bears seem set at running back. They have Khalil Herbert, D’Onta Foreman, Travis Homer, and Trestan Ebner. However, when Ebner was called upon last season, he struggled.
The Bears take Mohamed Ibrahim here to give Ebner some competition.
At 5-foot-8, 209 pounds Ibrahim is a good runner with a low center of gravity. With the poor Minnesota passing attack, the offense relied on Ibrahim. He answered the bell. He had three 1,000-yard rushing seasons for the Golden Gophers.
Ibrahim is a patient runner who reads the lanes and quickly hits the proper holes. He has a balanced base and absorbs the hit well. He bounces off the hit and has his own hit at the end of his runs. Also, he finds the end zone, having scored 53 touchdowns.
Round 7, #258: Bumper Pool, LB, Arkansas
Poles did a good job of overhauling the linebacker unit. He added Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards. Together, they could give the Bears another linebacker duo that reminds fans of the Brian Urlacher/Lance Briggs combo.
The third linebacker could be Jack Sanborn. Sanborn had a very good season filling in after the Bears traded Roquan Smith. His season was cut short due to an injury, however.
Now the Bears need some rotational help. They get that with Bumper Pool. He comes in at 6-foot-3, 235 pounds. He provides good off-the-ball coverage. At Arkansas, he was the school’s leading tackler with 444 and was voted All-SEC Second Team his last three seasons.
Pool is a heat-seeking missile as a downhill runner. He has a good feel for pursuit angles and how to maneuver through traffic. He is good against the run and runs the edge to make the ball carrier move back to the inside. Moreover, he also provides good special teams play.
