So far, this dynamic duo has pitched on the same regular season staff for one week. Justin Verlander got an injury and Max Scherzer got tossed from a game and suspended. It’s not the start the Mets were looking for out of their two aces, and yet they have 15 wins and are in a three-way tie for second place. It’s not ideal, but it’s acceptable.
Marlins and Phillies Could Push The Mets Out
The Miami Marlins are competing and the Philadelphia Phillies are the NL champs. Right now all three teams, including the Mets, have 15 wins in their first 28 games. The Mets have 27 since the Braves rainout on Saturday. Mets management acts like they are the team to beat, and they’re not. The Braves are. They’re in first, and everybody else will chase them. All of these teams should be able to hold serve all season, so the NL East could be a tremendous race with one or two of these teams possibly not making the playoffs depending on the NL Wild Card race.
Are The Pirates For Real?
Currently, the Pittsburgh Pirates are leading the NL Central with a 20-8 record and not much payroll. Last game, Drew Maggi, a rookie, got his first MLB hit and RBI. Things are coming up roses for them. Jack Suwinski crushed a grand slam the game before that and Brian Reynolds was signed to a long-term contract. That’s right, the Pirates gave him over $107 million dollars over eight years. The Pirates are coming out of hibernation and could be a surprise worth watching this season. But it’s early.

Padres and Giants Helping Fantasy Teams in Mexico Series
The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants are playing a series in Mexico City. In the first game, the two teams slammed 11 home runs in one game. The teams combined for 30 hits and 27 runs. It’s a joke. I’m sorry. This was a worse idea than playing in England. Mexico City is 7,349 feet above sea level. Is major league baseball using the humidor or are the pitchers just sacrificial lambs? Ask Padres starter, Joe Musgrove, who only lasted 3 ⅓ innings. He wasn’t happy, and no fans who respect baseball should be. This is a joke, and it’s not on par with major league stadiums because of the atmospheric change. Major league baseball loves offense and constantly cracks down on pitching. I just don’t get that. Both can be great if they had level playing fields.
*Note – All major league ballparks are using a humidor this season.
So we are basically saying that rosin+sweat= too sticky???? C’mon, this is lame. Every pitcher uses rosin. Scherzer should not have been suspended for this. MLB needs to figure out the exact rules and clarify what is and what isn’t too sticky.
