With the Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche both being eliminated in Game 7 of their respective series in the Stanley Cup Playoff, two new teams have emerged as favorites to win the Stanley Cup. Both are north of the border in the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers. Could the Stanley Cup finally return to Canada?
Bettors and oddsmakers alike feel like the time is now for a Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup. Will it happen? Well, that is why they play the games. And with the way the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs has played out anything is possible.
With both the Eastern and Western Conference favorites now gone, the field is wide open as a new Stanley Cup Champion will be crowned. That is reflected on the oddsmakers board. As the Florida Panthers and Seattle Kraken have shown anything can happen once you get in the dance.

Canadian Stanley Cup Drought
Look it has been since 1993 since a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup. With the Maple Leafs (+350) and Oilers (+400), the odds are high that we could have an all-Canadian Stanley Cup Final. Highly that will happen? Again we will have to see the games play out on the ice.
Toronto finally got passed their 19-year first-round drought knocking off the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games. Three of those wins came in overtime on the road. Those are the types of breaks teams need to win a Stanley Cup. We know they will be favoured against the Panthers and with the weight of the first round off their backs look for them to play even looser than before.
Edmonton has been to the Western Conference Final last year and they want to get back and go even further. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are leading the way. McDavid continues to show that his actions speak louder than his words. He understands that for all the numbers to mean something he has to win the Stanley Cup and Oilers have the team to do it.

The other top favorites to win the Stanley Cup see the Devils from the Eastern Conference along with the Stars and Golden Knights from the Western Conference.
Dallas Stars (+550)
The Dallas Stars were in the Stanley Cup Final in 2020 and rode a hot goaltender then and could do that again this year with Jake Oettinger. Not to mention, head coach Pete DeBoer is known for bringing a team to the Stanley Cup Final in his first year. Even if they had faced Colorado, Dallas has shown they can beat them in the playoffs. Seattle on the other hand will be a different task. The Kraken can roll four lines and Philipp Grubauer is showing why he can take a team on a run. Dallas has a lot of firepower to get them out of the West.

New Jersey Devils (+575)
Behind the Maple Leafs, the Devils are the oddsmakers’ next favorite to come out of the East. Though the East is still tough. New Jersey has the speed to play with anyone in the league. They have a tough road ahead with the Hurricanes in round two. New Jersey is favored in that series. However, if you look at the talent and what they are doing, it makes sense. Not to mention their goaltender Akira Schmid is playing well right now. If this team gets going look out. Could be a sneaky good play.
Vegas Golden Knights (+650)
So too does the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas handled their business in the first round, but run into a very hot Edmonton Oilers team. The Golden Knights are seeing production from Jack Eichel and Mark Stone. Not to mention some of the original ‘Golden Misfits’ are potting goals for them. Vegas has been always the sexy pick after their inaugural run in 2018, but this year it feels like they are flying under the radar and could be a sneaky good play.
Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs gets underway Tuesday night May 2nd.
