NFL Announces Two Chiefs Games Before Full Schedule Release -

In the last few years, May has become the point in the offseason where the NFL announces the regular season schedule for the upcoming campaign. The full slate is set to be released tonight on Thursday, May 11th at 8 p.m. eastern time. However, some early announcements for specific matchups have been released. The league announced two of the games on the Kansas City Chiefs 2023 schedule yesterday.

Beforehand, we already knew that the Chiefs were going to be playing a game in Germany as part of the NFL’s international series. All of the international games were released on Wednesday morning. Kansas City will be one of two teams that will be “hosting” a contest overseas in Germany this year. In that matchup, the Chiefs will take on the Miami Dolphins. That will be in Week 9 on November 5th, 2023 from Frankfurt. Kickoff is set for 9:30 a.m. eastern time.

Elsewhere, another one of the Chiefs’ home games was announced, with this one taking place at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. This will pit two of the best teams in the AFC against each other, with the Cincinnati Bengals coming to town. The pair of teams have grown into bitter rivals over the last few years. Overall, this game will be in Week 17 on December 31st, 2023, New Year’s Eve. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. eastern time.

Chiefs Vs Dolphins Headlines

It is really unfortunate for fans in Kansas City that this matchup is not at Arrowhead Stadium. Obviously, this is due to one major reason. That one particular reason is the involvement of wide receiver Tyreek Hill. One of the most decorated wide receivers in recent memory, Hill will be entering his second season with the Dolphins after being traded by the Chiefs. This will be the first meeting between Kansas City and Miami since that major trade.

On the other hand, this will be one of four total games for the Chiefs facing off against the entire AFC East. All of the AFC East and the AFC West will face each other in 2023. Kansas City will host the Buffalo Bills, while traveling to take on the New York Jets and the New England Patriots.

Finally, these two teams are very similar. The Chiefs and the Dolphins are both driven heavily by their offense. Kansas City ranked first in yards and points on offense last season. Of course, Patrick Mahomes won 2022 NFL MVP with 5,250 passing yards and 41 passing touchdowns. Meanwhile, Tua Tagovailoa took strides last year, when healthy. He had 25 passing touchdowns to just eight interceptions. Even with him missing some time, Miami ranked 11th in points and sixth in yards last year.

Chiefs Vs Bengals Headlines

As mentioned above, these two teams have grown into rivals over the last few years. Cincinnati had Kansas City’s number entering last year’s AFC Championship Game. Even with the three previous losses for Mahomes and the Chiefs against Joe Burrow‘s Bengals, Kansas City really beat themselves in most of those defeats. Finally, the Chiefs were able to avenge some of those demons, winning at home in last year’s AFC title game.

The duo of Mahomes and Burrow are arguably the best two quarterbacks in the NFL, as things currently stand. The way they compete and lead inspire other teammates to go that extra mile. To boot, Mahomes and Burrow have grown into two of the most poised and automatic quarterbacks with the game on the line.

With this being in Week 17, there will likely be major playoff implications. There could even be scenarios that hold a heavy influence on the number one seed in the AFC. Whoever wins this New Year’s Eve game in Kansas City could very well possess home-field advantage going into the playoffs.
