Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields was asked about contract talks between the two parties. The way he handled the question shows why he is the right man to lead the team.
As the Chicago Bears’ highly-touted quarterback, Justin Fields has captured the attention of fans and media alike. With his entertaining playing style, there is growing anticipation surrounding contract discussions between him and the Bears’ front office. We will explore how Fields is handling the contract negotiations and the factors contributing to his proactive approach.
Fields and his representation have maintained an open line of communication with the Chicago Bears throughout the offseason. General manager Ryan Poles kept Fields apprised on his offseason moves. That shows how much faith Poles has in the young quarterback to be the leader this team needs.
The third season is when a team can start negotiating with players. That is where FIelds is now. Additionally, the team can just pick up an option for the fifth season. If Fields still doesn’t convince the team about his ability, then Poles uses that option. However, it appears as if Poles doesn’t have any reservations. He is all in on Fields, setting up the offense to help him succeed. Of course, now the onus is on Fields to show that the confidence in him is well-placed.
We see Fields’ mindset when questioned about possible contract talks
During OTAs, reporters asked Fields about contract talks. He sidestepped the question.
I think every year is a big year. So, I mean, yeah — I don’t really have anything to expand on that. But for me, every year is a big year and I’m excited to show. I’m not worried about contracts, I’m worried about wins. I could care less.

Fields focuses on his on-field performance, recognizing that his success and value in the league are directly tied to his performance, He works diligently on improving his skills and grasp of the Bears’ offensive system. This approach showcases his dedication to becoming the best quarterback he can be, regardless of the contract negotiations.
Fields had a very good season in 2022, making history with his legs. He knows, however, that the quarterback makes the big bucks for using his arm. It is critical for him to show how good he really is throwing the ball. He has a lot better talent surrounding him this year so he knows that if he has a successful season throwing the ball while also continuing his great runs, then the sky is the limit for him and the Chicago Bears offense.
Fields has expressed his trust in the Bears’ front office and their ability to reach a fair agreement. Poles showed his trust and faith in Fields by giving him weapons and protection so he could succeed. Additionally, by letting him in on some of the offseason moves, Poles and the Bears earned a lot of trust.
Understanding that contract negotiations can be complex and time-consuming, Fields remains patient and confident that both parties will work towards a favorable outcome.
Fields’ handling of contract discussions reflects his long-term vision for his career. By engaging in open communication, maintaining focus on the field, and trusting the negotiation process, Fields demonstrates his commitment to building a successful and enduring partnership with the Bears organization. He recognizes that a well-structured and mutually beneficial contract will set the foundation for a productive and prosperous future.
Additionally, he understands that there is some time before both sides agree on another contract. The Bears still need to fill more holes and Poles has done a great job of adding talent without overspending. The Bears still have the highest salary cap space for this season and the fourth-most in 2024. Should Poles continue to make shrewd money moves, he will have the Chicago Bears in a position to contend and still have plenty of money to pay a successful Fields.
Both parties are in a position in which they trust each other and have faith in having a contending Chicago Bears team. This trust will go a long way to getting to the ultimate goal of winning and keeping Fields in Chicago for a long time. Let’s hope that it continues and that actually happens.
