Four Questions: AFC East Quarterbacks Under Pressure -

One move shook up the quarterback hierarchy in the AFC East. Yet, what other questions abound about the division’s passers?

From 2001-2019, Tom Brady dominated the division with elite play. Since his departure to sunnier shores, a struggle for the signalcaller supremacy. Now, with each team employing presumably their quarterback of choice, where do they stack up and what concerns raise about them and how the others could possess the same issues. In a league of parity, chances remain high that the AFC East will now send four quarterbacks to the playoffs.

Is Mac Jones’ last chance in New England?

If you look at a part of the numbers, some paint an outstanding picture. Jones completes two-thirds of his passes at a seven yard clip. However, the 3:2 ratio of interceptions to touchdowns do not sit well with most. Jones is more than a game manager, but can he win games for you? In his defense, the offensive talent did scare any opponents. Now, adding Mike Gesicki and Juju Smith-Schuster should add to those yards per attempt number. In reality, the Patriots gave Jones help. Can the quarterback lead the Patriots the top of the AFC East?

When will Josh Allen break through?

After his drafting, people mocked Josh Allen and the Bills. Two Pro Bowl nods and fifty-two wins later, people stopped laughing. As a quarterback, Allen climbed to the top of the AFC West. Yet, he lack something. Despite gaudy numbers and regular season acclaim, Allen stands at 4-4 in the playoffs. You cannot blame travel or weather conditions for the failures. The Bills appear in a holding pattern, winning just enough to keep the casual fans happy. At the same time, when does the clock start ticking? The offense boasts multiple receiving weapons. 2023 feels like a must-win situation in the AFC East. Or, it should be.

Should you trust Tua Tagovailoa to finish the season?

First, anyone with a pulse wants every quarterback, not just in the AFC East, but all over, to walk from the game in decent health. However, Tagovailoa suffered multiple concussion last season and looks like an unsafe bet in 2023. When on the field, the Dolphins’ quarterback led the AFC East track team offense. Now, with the knowledge about severe head trauma, and the likelihood of another concussion, Miami gambles with their future. More importantly, they roll the dice with a player’s long-term health.

Are the Jets the favorites in the division?

Without hyperbole, I would say the answer is a yes, provided that Aaron Rodgers stays healthy. On balance, the Jets will field a deep receiver and running back group. Despite being in the twilight of his career, Rodgers enters as the best quarterback in his division. If you are looking for downside, all I would ask is how he will handle the invasive New York media. On the field, Rodgers should lead the Jets to a division crown. if he stays healthy.
