While it is still early, one positive from OTAs is the chemistry already forming between quarterback Justin Fields and wide receiver D.J. Moore. This bodes well for the season.
While it is still early and the Chicago Bears players are still in shorts, there are some positives to come out of their OTAs. The coaches got to see the new players perform and interact with the players who were already on the team.
One of the biggest positives is how the team’s quarterback, Justin Fields, and the top wide receiver, D.J. Moore, are already forming good chemistry.
Having both of them gain a good rapport will certainly go a long way to the improvement of the offense. The Bears had a difficult time with the receivers in 2022. They could not get any separation and Fields had a difficult time trusting them to make plays.
With Moore, the Bears gain one of the top wide receivers in the game. Moore does a good job of separating, thus making the throw for Fields much easier. He also runs great routes. Fields has another receiver he could trust.
Of course, Fields also had Darnell Mooney. The two have been great together since Fields’ rookie season. Fields trusts Mooney completely and knows that he will go out and make plays.
Mooney was injured last year, however, and had his season cut short. That left Fields on an island. Even with that, he ended up with the second-most targets on the team with 61 (most of any wide receiver). The only other target he had any kind of trust with was tight end Cole Kmet, who ended up with the most targets on the team (69).
That should change with Moore around now.
Moore should make the offense much better
The Fields-Moore connection will be big for the Chicago Bears. With him on the roster the wide receivers unit gets a little more settled. While Mooney was big for Fields, he isn’t really a number one wide receiver. He’d make for a great number two, however.

Ep 135: 49ers Move To 3-0, NFC South Buy or Sell, Week 3 Picks/Predictions
by Full Press Coverage on September 24, 2023 at 3:13 pm
Moore is a true #1. He’ll go at the top and Mooney becomes a #2. Then that means that Chase Claypool, a pretty good wide receiver in his own right, becomes the three. That is a pretty good top three in the receivers corps.
From the first day of the offseason workouts, it was apparent that the chemistry between Fields and Moore was great. Their interaction, both on and off the field, displays a growing understanding and synergy, vital for a successful quarterback-receiver duo.
Moore, a proven receiver from the Carolina Panthers, is renowned for his speed, agility, and reliable hands. These traits complement Fields’ strong arm and accuracy, creating an exciting potential for explosive plays. In Carolina, Moore consistently ranked among the top receivers, amassing over 1,100 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons before the Carolina quarterback situation imploded in 2022.
Fields, on the other hand, showed great promise in his first two years, displaying poise, mobility, and an ability to make big plays even under pressure. His rookie and sophomore years were marked by significant development, and his pairing with Moore seems to be the next step in the evolution of his game. He hears all of the “Fields is a running back playing quarterback” jokes. He wants to change that narrative.
During OTAs, their chemistry has been evident. Whether it’s deep passes down the sideline or timing routes in the middle of the field, Fields and Moore have displayed a remarkable synchronization. Moore’s ability to create separation from defenders coupled with Fields’ ability to place the ball accurately has created some spectacular plays, whetting the appetite of Bears’ fans for the season to come.
Off the field, their camaraderie is also apparent. They have been seen together reviewing game footage, working out, and even enjoying their free time. This rapport extends beyond just professional courtesy; they seem to genuinely enjoy each other’s company, further fueling their connection on the field.
As the preseason progresses, it’s clear that the Fields-Moore combination could be a game-changer for the Bears. While it is still early, the signs are promising. Their mutual respect and understanding, combined with their individual talents, have created an electric dynamic that could be a nightmare for opposing defenses.
If their connection continues to develop at this rate, the Fields-Moore duo could become one of the NFL’s most exciting pairings in the 2023 season. Chicago Bears fans have a lot to look forward to as this exciting partnership continues to flourish.
In football, chemistry can be the difference between a good team and a great one. With Fields and Moore, the Bears may have found the secret sauce to elevate their offensive game to the next level. Keep an eye on this dynamic duo as they aim to light up the field this upcoming season.
