NFL 2023: Ranking The 5 Best Offseason Moves At Wide Receiver

It’s been another busy offseason around the National Football League. From free agency and trades to April’s NFL draft.

As the passing game becomes more prevalent around the NFL, teams continue to add talent at wide receiver. So, who were the top acquisitions this offseason when it came to the position? As of this writing, former Cardinals’ standout DeAndre Hopkins remains a free agent.

5. Zay Flowers, Baltimore Ravens

The franchise signed quarterback Lamar Jackson to a new contract this offseason. General manager Eric DeCosta also gave his talented signal-caller a few new veteran weapons in one-time first-round NFL picks Nelson Agholor, Odell Beckham Jr., and well-traveled Laquon Treadwell. The Ravens also added a burner in the first round of April’s draft in former Boston College standout Zay Flowers. In four years with the Golden Eagles, he hauled in 200 passes for 3,056 yards (15.3 average) and 29 touchdowns (12 in 2022).

4. Allen Robinson, Pittsburgh Steelers

The nine-year veteran is now with his third team in as many years and fourth overall. In four seasons with the Jaguars, Allen Robinson totaled 202 catches for 2,848 yards and 22 scores, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2015. He played only one game with the team in 2017 and would sign with the Bears in ‘18. Four years in Chicago added up to 293 catches for 3,561 yards and 18 TDs. He played in only 10 games for the Rams in 2022 (33 catches, 3 for scores) and the Steelers obtained him with a swap of seventh-round picks in April.

3. Brandin Cooks, Dallas Cowboys

The one-time first-round selection has been productive for every franchise he has suited up for. Why on earth does wide receiver Brandin Cooks keep on getting traded? The Dallas Cowboys obtained the nine-year veteran from the Texans for a fifth-round pick this year and a sixth-round selection in 2024. Cooks led Houston with 57 catches and 699 receiving yards in 2022 but scored only three touchdowns. His career totals with the Saints, Patriots, Rams, and Texans read 630 grabs for 8,616 yards and 49 scores.

2. JuJu Smith-Schuster, New England Patriots

He spent five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before inking a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022. Six-year-pro Juju Smith-Schuster now heads to Foxborough off a solid season with Andy Reid’s club that culminated with a Super Bowl LVII title. The 2018 Pro Bowler finished second on the Chiefs with 78 catches and 933 receiving yards, to go along with three scores. It was a great bounce-back campaign for the talented pro, who was limited to six games (including playoffs) one season earlier.

1. D.J. Moore, Chicago Bears

He was the 24th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Panthers and spent five seasons with the franchise. D.J. Moore was part of the deal that enabled Carolina to obtain the first overall pick in April’s draft from the Chicago Bears. He should help emerging quarterback Justin Fields and head coach Matt Eberflus’ offense, which finished last in the NFL in passing yards per game in 2022. Moore totaled at least 55 catches in each of his five seasons with the Panthers and reached the 1,000-yard mark three times.
