Free agent pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney visits Baltimore Ravens

Free agent pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney found himself visiting the division rival of his former team Tuesday. Clowney took a trip to Baltimore to visit with the Ravens.

Clowney spent the past two seasons with the Cleveland Browns with mixed results. Taking into consideration how his second year in Cleveland went, his resurgent year in 2021 was clearly an outlier. There were issues on and off the field in Cleveland. When Clowney’s time with the Browns came to an end, it did not necessarily feel like much of a loss.

Jadeveon Clowney has not lived up to the status of being a former number overall pick.

While he was able to show some level of production, it is certainly not worthy of being taken as the first overall selection. Jadeveon Clowney has never had a double-digit sack season in his nine-year NFL career. Additionally, his ability as a run-stopper has always been vastly overrated. Clowney is very adept at causing chaos which can be misattributed as being productive when it comes to stopping the run, but that is simply not the case.

There is a way for Clowney to be used effectively at this point in his career. As a designated pass rusher. Tasking Clowney with anything else is simply coaching malpractice and should not be under consideration. Additionally, being inserted into one of two defenses that are usually considered among the best in the league could result in Clowney at least appearing to have regained his former form, even in a very reduced role.

The Ravens do not need Clowney to be a star should he ultimately end up in Baltimore. All they would really need is for him to be a cog in an already established machine. The Ravens have done this many times before and it would not be surprising to see them do it again with Clowney.
