49ers’ Brock Purdy: “My Arm Feels Great”

Perhaps, San Francisco 49ers fans can start sleeping a little easier at night with just a few weeks to go until the start of the 2023 NFL season.

Presumptive starting quarterback Brock Purdy met with reporters following Thursday’s practice and gave an encouraging update on his recovery from a torn ulnar collateral ligament.

“My arm feels great,” said Purdy, per David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. “Just still building back-to-back days and trying to gain all the strength that I can back from, obviously, just the rehab process of things. And I feel really confident.”

Purdy injured his right elbow during last January’s NFC Championship Game and had surgery in March. The Iowa St. alum started five games for the 49ers, going 5-0, throwing 13 touchdowns, 1,374 yards, and just four interceptions following an injury to Jimmy Garoppolo.

No Super Bowl contender has had more questions at the quarterback position the last several years than the 49ers. 2023 will be no different, even if Purdy is the starter from Day 1.

Garoppolo is now in Las Vegas after signing with the Raiders, while Sam Darnold and Trey Lance round out the rest of San Francisco’s quarterback room.

The 49ers kick off their season in Pittsburgh against Kenny Pickett and the Steelers. Will Purdy be under center?
