ACC Championship Odds: Who Will Stop Clemson?

The 2023 College Football season began on Saturday. We here at Full Press Coverage are ramping up our college football coverage this season. Already we have given you the betting odds for the 2024 National Championship. As well as the first preseason AP Top 25 Poll. Full Press Coverage then ramped things up even more by looking at the top five storylines heading into the start of the season. Now we will go conference by conference, looking at the odds of who will play each conference championship game. Next up, is the ACC.

Clemson has been the dominant team in the ACC for a long time. The Tigers have won seven of eight ACC Championships. Even with Notre Dame in the conference during COVID, the Tigers were still ACC Champions. Prior to that, it was all about Florida State Seminoles. The Seminoles are looking to get back to the ACC Championship Game. Outside of Clemson’s dominance, the Pittsburgh Panthers won the ACC during the Kenny Pickett era. However, everyone expects either Clemson or Florida State to win the conference this year.

There are other teams like North Carolina and Duke, throw NC State in there as well. But it is expected Clemson will go back to the ACC Championship and win the title again.

Let’s take a look at who can go to the ACC Championship game.

ACC Championship: Clemson or Florida State

Who is going to dethrone the Clemson Tigers? It took a down year from the Tigers and others for Wake Forest and Pittsburgh to see the ACC Championship game in 2021. North Carolina made the title game last year but lost to Clemson. Clemson is favored at +145. Dabo Sweeney’s club went 8-0 in the conference last year, however, losses to Notre Dame, Tennessee, and South Carolina kept the Tigers out of the College Football Playoff. Clemson is a National Title team this year, but they have to run the table. One loss will not be good enough not with the SEC and B10 playing as well as they are.

Florida State is right behind them at +165. The Seminoles want to get back to being a powerhouse. They went 10-3 last season with Jordan Travis under center. The quarterback returns this season as the Seminoles look to play spoiler in the ACC. Again Florida State isn’t back until they win a conference title—something they have not done since 2014.

The next closest teams are North Carolina +900 and Pittsburgh +1100. The Tar Heels have quarterback Drake Maye returning. That is a big reason why people expect them to get back to the title game. The offense ranked 11th in the nation last season, averaging under 35 points per game. Their defense, well, it is like USC’s it needs work. The Tar Heels will be able to score but can they stop anyone?

Pittsburgh is a long shot at +1100, so is Louisville at +1400. But the Cardinals have a good team, and so do the Panthers. There is a chance they could get into the title game. Don’t count out the Duke Blue Devils, either. They are slowly assembling a good team, and all their starters are back from last season.

Notice how we didn’t mention the Miami Hurricanes. Sorry, until this team proves otherwise, I can’t see them as a true contender for the ACC Championship.

Expect Clemson to win the ACC Championship and find their way back to the playoff.
