College Football Week 1 Games To Watch

The 2023-24 College Football season is here. We here at Full Press Coverage have been previewing each conference with who we expect to win based on the odds presented by the books. In addition, Full Press Coverage has given you the Preseason AP Top 25 Poll along with the Top Five Storylines to Watch for this upcoming season. Now we will dive into the must-watch games for each week, starting with Week 1.

Yes, we know Week 0 kicked things off last week. Not much to say there, except the only exciting game was San Diego State and Ohio. The rest were not that entertaining as Notre Dame beat up on Navy in Ireland, and USC beat up on San Jose State. However, the Trojans’ defense is something to watch this season.

As we enter Week 1 of the College Football season there are several intriguing matchups with playoff and conference implications on the line. Not to mention some new faces in familiar places.

(5) LSU vs. (8) Florida State – Sunday Night, September 3rd

The heavyweight showdown of the weekend between the Tigers and Seminoles. This should be really good, considering the game last season. Florida State won a thrilling game last year 24-23 and the Tigers are out for revenge in year 2 of Brian Kelly. This is a make-or-break game for both teams with national championship hopes. It is week one so we know how losses early on don’t matter later on as much, but these teams want to get off on the right foot.

Florida vs. 14 Utah – Thursday Night – August 31st

The season gets going Thursday night in a rematch from last season between the Gators and Utes. Last year’s game was a thriller that came down to the final drive for Cam Rising and Utah. Anthony Richardson showed why in that game he was taken by the Colts in that game. It will be interesting to see what Utah does if Rising does not go. The Gators are a good squad, but Utah is tough at home. This should be another slugfest.

Colorado vs. 17 TCU – Big Noon Kickoff – Saturday – September 2nd

All eyes will be on Deion Sanders and Colorado as they head into a matchup with 17th-ranked TCU. TCU Horned Frogs lost in the national title game last season. Even though they are ranked 17th this season, it will be tough for them to get back there with no Max Duggan. Sanders has brought a new swagger to Colorado and the Buffaloes are ready to take the next step in the Pac-12 before they return to the Big 12.

(9) Clemson vs. Duke – Monday Night – Labor Day September 4th

Another highly anticipated matchup in the ACC. Clemson will look to add another ACC title to its reign. Meanwhile, people are notching what the Blue Devils are doing in football now. They have a better recruiting class and are always a tough team to play at home. There are some who think Duke can go to the ACC title game after their nine-win season a year ago. If they do it is because they beat Clemson in Week 1. But Clemson remains the class of the conference.

Boise State vs. (10) Washington – Saturday, September 2nd

Look, we know what Boise State can do. We have seen them pull upsets before. If you look at the slate, we don’t see that App State/Michigan upset there. But you never in this game. There are a lot of expectations for the Huskies this season. Michael Penix Jr. is in the running for the Heisman Trophy. Boise always plays teams tough. This game will determine a lot for the Huskies, who will jump right into Pac-12 play the following week.

There are other games on the schedule that will be worth watching, including Luke Fickell’s debut in Wisconsin, along with Matt Rhule in Nebraska. For the most part, the big schools get the cupcake games in Week 1 before we see ranked matchups.
