After a difficult start to the season that shows the same struggles as last season, things are bad for the Chicago Bears. Now more news coming out makes things even worse.
The Chicago Bears are in the midst of an 0-2 start to the season. They also currently have a 12-game losing streak. As a result, a lot of negativity is surrounding the team.
The fans are upset and are calling for heads to roll. It doesn’t matter that this is only the second season for the entire regime. Things seem to be the same so they want change.
There are plenty of difficult situations to contemplate with this team. The offense still struggles and the defense continues to get bashed. There are players who are loafing on the field and the coaching staff doesn’t seem to have an answer for anything. As bad as some of the other regimes were, they didn’t suffer through a 12-game (for now) losing streak.
Now things are going from bad to worse.
We saw how badly the team handled wide receiver Chase Claypool. Different parts of the team gave differing information. Head coach Matt Eberflus publicly claimed that effort wasn’t a problem with Claypool. However, there were reports that privately the team warned Claypool that he could sit or even find himself traded if it happened again.
Additionally, D.J. Moore spoke about how Claypool’s teammates went to him to talk about his lack of effort during the game.
Now, Justin Fields is becoming a laughingstock in the league. He looks completely different from last year. Gone is the dynamic playmaker who was nearly unstoppable running the ball. While he made the occasional big play with his arm, the thinking for this season was he could do better throwing the ball.
Fields looks too mechanical on the field. He looks hesitant to make throws. All his natural abilities seem to have been taken out of him.
Fields puts some blame on coaching?
Fields is not blind or unaware of his shortcomings. He admits he needs to perform better. He wants to go out there and play more naturally. In his Wednesday press conference, Fields noted that he has to be better and play more naturally.

When a reporter asked him what the cause of his not playing his usual self, Fields answered “Could be coaching.” That could be a shot at offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.
In Fields’ next sentence, he did say the coaches were doing their job and it was up to him to separate things and not overthink things. However, the media only heard the part that insinuated it was the coaches’ fault.

After his press conference, Fields clarified his statement even more. He said they could put all the blame on him. He said he takes full responsibility for whatever happens, whether it is a bad play called or a receiver dropping a pass. His responsibility is to run the play correctly or to give the receiver a better pass to catch.
Fields is great for taking all of the blame. However, there is clearly a disconnect between Getsy and Fields. Getsy is trying to change what made Fields a great prospect. Fields performs better when he rolls out and throws on the run. We’ve seen that in 2+ seasons.
Where is Eberflus? He is the head coach and has to find a solution for this. No, he isn’t an offensive-minded coach. However, he has to oversee the entire team. If there is a problem he needs to address it. Either he doesn’t see a problem brewing there or he agrees with what Getsy is doing. Either case is a problem. He needs to step up.
Now legal trouble for a coach
Now the Chicago Bears’ problems reached the legal area. Defensive coordinator Alan Williams, also under fire for how he runs the struggling defense, is in legal trouble.
Apparently, Law enforcement raided his house the same day the Bears opened the season. He missed last week’s game due to personal reasons.
Now, apparently, there was a raid at Halas Hall Wednesday morning. The team denied there was a raid but the FBI was there.
Ironically, it was former Chicago Bears legend Charles Tillman who informed team officials. He is an FBI agent now.
Williams handed his resignation Wednesday morning when whatever happened at Halas Hall was going on.
This just adds more complication to all the bad things surrounding the franchise. It is an embarrassing situation for a once-proud franchise.
The fact that the Chicago Bears have a game this week against the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs is likely the least of the team’s concerns.
