Browns: Kareem Hunt in, Greg Newsome out Sunday

Offense gets some help

Kareem Hunt’s return to the field in a Cleveland Browns uniform will not be delayed as he is expected to play against the Tennesee Titans this Sunday, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski. The team agreed to terms with Hunt on a one-year deal after Nick Chubb was lost for the year in Monday night’s loss to Pittsburgh.

It is not surprising to see Hunt return to action so quickly after signing earlier this week. Having extensive familiarity with the Browns’ offensive system will make it much easier for Hunt to ease back into on-field action. While Jerome Ford will be Cleveland’s lead back, Hunt should still receive his fair share of touches. Should Ford struggle, Hunt would be able to take on a larger role as needed.

Defense takes a hit

While the offense is receiving a boost, it is the defense who will be down a player this Sunday. Cornerback Greg Newsome will not play against the Titans due to an elbow injury.

Not having their full complement of players on defense is not ideal, but if there is one team to be down a defensive back against, it is Tennesee. Ryan Tannehill is not a good quarterback and is incredibly average when he’s at his best. The Titans’ path to victory will continue to be through Derrick Henry and not Tannehill. Cleveland still has Denzel Ward and MJ Emerson available to them, and that should be able to limit Tennesee’s air attack.

Looking ahead, Newsome could potentially return in Week 4. Should Newsome miss Week 4, his absence should not be too lengthy. This is due to Cleveland’s bye week taking place in Week 5. Either way, Newsome should be able to appear in the majority of Cleveland’s games this season.
