The New York Jets currently own the NFL’s longest playoff drought. The franchise hasn’t made a postseason appearance since the 2010 season. It was a year in which they dethroned the defending AFC champion Colts at Indianapolis and bested the conference’s No. 1 seed at Foxborough.
Rex Ryan’s Jets would fall short at Pittsburgh in the AFC title game. Since then, only one winning season, a 10-6 finish in 2015, which didn’t result in a postseason invitation.
There’s another streak of failure that the Jets hope to end this Sunday at MetLife Stadium when the New England Patriots come to call. Bill Belichick’s team is the only club in the AFC East not to win a game so far this season. The franchise is off to a 0-2 start for the first time since 2001.
What the Patriots have managed to do the past seven seasons was sweep the Jets seven straight times. That 14 consecutive wins in this AFC East rivalry. More times than not, the game has been lopsided. Nine of New England’s 14 victories have been by at least 14 points. That was not the case in 2022, when Belichick’s squad came up with a five-point road win (22-17) in Week 8 and three week later, got a late punt return for a touchdown in a 10-3 triumph at Foxborough.

The overall numbers are stunning. The Jets have been outscored a combined 410-153 during this current losing streak to the Pats. New England has scored 22-plus points in all but one contest. The Green and White has been limited to 17 or fewer points in 13 of those 14 meetings.

The Patriots’ turnover differential in this streak is an impressive plus-27. The Jets have given up the football 33 times while Belichick’s team has committed just six turnovers, including zero miscues in 10 of the 14 wins. Consider that Robert Saleh’s team sacked Patriots’ quarterback six times in each of the two meetings in 2022 and the Jets still couldn’t find a way to come up with a win.
Does the dubious streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon? Well…
