After another embarrassing loss in Week 3, it appears that the Chicago Bears have no plans to develop quarterback Justin Fields. They are just doing him a disservice at this point.
Well, the Chicago Bears suffered another embarrassing loss. This time they to it to the chin from the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. The game was not as close as the 41-10 score indicated.
At this point in quarterback Justin Fields‘ career, it seems that the Bears have no plans on developing him. Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy is knocking out all the things that made Fields a dynamic player. Fields is a shell of the player he was last season or even who he was in his rookie season.
Getsy and the Bears are trying to completely make over Fields. They want to turn him into a strictly pocket quarterback. That does not suit him. He is supremely athletic and plays better when on the move.
While Fields can burn defenses with his speed and elusiveness, he can also throw accurate passes while on the run. He seems more natural and confident when he moves. When he sticks to the pocket he is robotic and indecisive.
The Bears have messed around with Fields since his rookie season
Fields has struggled to be himself since the moment he stepped onto the field. In his rookie season, then-head coach Matt Nagy was not interested in playing him much. He wanted to pick certain situations, like red zone or goal-line plays.
When starter Andy Dalton injured his knee, Nagy had no choice but to put Fields in. However, with no work with the starters, Fields had to learn on the job. Additionally, Nagy made no adjustments for Fields’ skillset. Fields basically ran Dalton’s offense. Nagy didn’t seem to care that Fields was severely underutilized.
Last season, Fields had to adjust to a new coaching staff. General manager Ryan Poles, also in his first season, decided to tear down the roster. In its place, he signed other teams’ third and fourth-string players.
As a result, Fields had a subpar wide receivers corps. He couldn’t trust his receivers to make plays. Furthermore, he had a struggling offensive line trying to protect him.

by Full Press Coverage on November 27, 2023 at 12:12 am
It seemed that Poles did a good job of acquiring better talent around FIelds. After three games, however, we see the same old thing.
Poles can add all the players he wants but if the coaching is lacking, nothing will change.
Bears are letting Fields take a beating
Speaking of the offensive line, the unit is a bit of a sore spot for Fields. In 2021, he suffered 36 sacks in 12 games. Last season, he suffered 55 of them in 15 games. So far this season the number is already 13.
That means Fields has been sacked 104 times in 30 games. Doing the math, that’s about 3.5 sacks per game.
Yes, some of that is on Fields. He holds onto the ball. That is because he is looking to make a play. He wants to see the open receiver. By staying in the pocket, he cannot really get a good feel for a play. When that happens, it results in a sack.
Fields is taking a beating. The thought was that he would take some hits last season with all the running and the lack of protection. That was supposed to be different this season.
So far, however, Fields is still taking a beating. Then, in last Sunday’s loss, Fields took a big hit. Fields was wobbly and he looked like a drunk man walking back to the huddle. No one from the sideline took notice. It was D.J. Moore, one of the talented wide receivers brought in, who noticed. He grabbed Fields and motioned to the sideline to come take him.
This is great stuff: DJ Moore can tell something is wrong with Justin Fields, so he forces him to go to the team’s sideline.
Awesome teammate. Health comes first.

That was a great sign of leadership from Moore. With the season quickly going down the toilet, Moore could have just been concerned about his own situation. Instead, he looked out for his teammate.
Where was the concern from the sideline?
This franchise has not had many good quarterbacks in its history. We can see why by the way they are treating Fields.
If this continues and Fields regresses more, the Chicago Bears will have no other choice but to go after another quarterback next offseason. Is that perhaps the plan?
