Browns Sticking With DTR As Team’s Starter

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has announced that the team is sticking with Dorian Thompson-Robinson as their starting quarterback.

This announcement came while addressing Cleveland’s newest addition to the team via the practice squad. Stefanski mentioned that the recently signed Joe Flacco will be tasked with supporting the quarterback room, a group consisting of Thompson-Robinson, P.J. Walker, and the former Super Bowl MVP.

Even though there does not appear to be a sense of urgency to make a change at this time, that should not prevent Stefanski from making a move should he deem it necessary. With how Thompson-Robinson and Walker have played this season, it may not take too long for that to happen.

The Browns have had difficulties when moving the ball through the air this season, even with Deshaun Watson. Cleveland’s passing attack is one of the worst in the league, with the second-most interceptions thrown (13), third-fewest touchdowns (8), and fourth-fewest yards (2,028). A contributing factor to this has been the general inaccuracy of Cleveland’s quarterbacks. The collective 56.4% this season is the worst completion rate in the league.

Should the Browns go with Flacco, they would not need him to replicate his past playoff hot streak. All Cleveland would need from him is to be better than the worst quarterback production in the league while the team leans on their rushing attack. While this does not seem to be too big of an ask, every other quarterback Cleveland has trotted out there has failed to do so, and it is hard to imagine a 38-year-old who was available in Week 11 of the season being able to do that much better.
