After the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, while plenty of talent exists on the board, the overreaction overflows.
When the Carolina Panthers selected Xavier Leggette with the final pick of the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, it drew a wild night to close. For the first time in draft history, no defensive players went in the first ten picks. Moreover, every first or second round projected quarterback heard their names before the thirteenth pick. The league continues to veer towards the offensive side of the ball, in hopes of keeping stride with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Casual Overreaction
In looking though social media, you’d swear people only pay attention to the draft process when Round One commences. When their team selects someone that they haven’t heard of, the pick is automatically a bust and the front office is incompetent. Yet, trying to convince the fans of the credentials of a player, you’re met with frustration. ” Well, ESPN says,”. In what world do we live in that people cannot form their own opinions? Research has existed for centuries. Look, we didn’t sacrifice the Dewey Decimal system for Google to have Joe Fandom lose his mind over a first-round draft pick. Pro Tip: Many of the people you see on television are paid to elicit emotion from you using hyperbole. If only there were musical advice to follow.
No Quarter(back) Given
When Denver selected Bo Nix with the twelfth pick, that ended the quarterback selection for the rest of the round and maybe for much of the next couple rounds. Teams like the Las Vegas Raiders left the first round without a quarterback. Granted, drafting a playmaker in Brock Bowers is a nice consolation. Now, these franchises must ask themselves if reaching for a quarterback in the second round is the move. As mentioned, the Raiders do not currently employ a starting-caliber quarterback with game changing abilities. Players like Spencer Rattler and Michael Pratt now possess greater value with the early movement on quarterbacks. How the quarterback starved franchises will handle the next two rounds remains to be seen.

Best Players Available
T’Vondre Sweat, DT Texas
Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama
Jer’Zhan Newton, DT Illinois
Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon
Malachi Corley, WR, Western Kentucky
If teams are looking for a light-footed, heavy-handed defensive tackle, Sweat will take up blockers and defeat them with brute force. At the same time, he’s mobile enough in short areas to track the back down in the backfield. On the outside, McKinstry will give a team the ability to dive on short routes while staying hip-to-hip on long ones. Meanwhile, Newton is an interior disruptor that wins with a quick jab step and explosive approach. As a result, he will take the heat off edge rushers. Powers-Johnson will start from the first day. With his power and feet, he becomes the anchor of the offensive line. Philadelphia needs to jump right in. Lastly, Corley is the best receiver after the catch. He runs like a running back, a powerful tackle breaker that lives for YAC. Smart NFL teams will draft these players. The athletes need to follow words for a fictional sage.
