The votes are in for the 2018 edition of the NFL Pro-Bowl. Now that the dust has settled there is only one man who will be representing the AFC as a member of the Miami Dolphins.
That man goes by the name of Reshad Jones. This will be his first year making the Pro-Bowl as a non-alternate. He will be joined by fellow safety Micah Hyde from Buffalo.
Jones has had an impactful year in many ways. First of all, he has started in all 14 games thus far and has accumulated 76 tackles and half a sack during that time.
Jones has intercepted two passes and has defended four thus far. Where he really shines is fumble recoveries. He has recovered three fumbles thus far and has returned two of those for touchdowns.
Jones has made a large impact with some of the aforementioned turnovers. He caught the game-winning interception against his hometown Atlanta Falcons. That allowed the Dolphins to complete a huge comeback win against the Falcons on the road. This game began with the Falcons off to a hot start. However, it ultimately ended with defeat as the Dolphins got it all together on both sides of the ball. Jones’ interception was the dagger, as it stole the game right back from the Falcons when they were almost sure to earn a win.
Jones was also the difference in Miami’s win over the Tennessee Titans earlier this season. If it hadn’t been for a wise heads up play on Jones’ part, the Dolphins might not have won the game. Jones picked up a ball and ran it all the way back to the endzone just to be sure. The majority of the players had thought that the play was dead. However, Jones did the right thing and it paid off big for Miami. This touchdown proved to be the difference in the game, as the Dolphins won 16-10.
Lastly, Jones found yet another way to make an impact in a big way against the New England Patriots in Foxboro. New England experienced issues with the snap as the ball rocketed past New England quarterback Tom Brady. Luckily for Miami, Jones was able to get his hands on it without losing his stride and he ran it back for a touchdown. Unfortunately the game did not end in victory for the Dolphins. However, it provided a huge momentum boost and it kept them in it.
Ending the year on a high note
Ultimately, the 2017 season for Jones was not as good as his 2015 season, statistically speaking. However, Jones is now a two-time Pro-Bowler. In his 2015 snubbing he entered the Pro-Bowl game as an alternate. Whereas now he has the right to say that he was voted in initially. Miami continues to enjoy excellent production out of the 2010 5th rounder from the University of Georgia.
Jones will be paired with fellow safety T.J. McDonald Jr. for the future, as the Dolphins have chosen to extend McDonald Jr. right away. This should excite Dolphins fans, as this duo has the chance to be something special for years to come.
