According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Malcolm Butler intends to sign with the Tennessee Titans tomorrow. While this is a developing story, we know that it is a 5-year offer worth more than 61 million dollars. Rapoport is reporting that a whopping 30 million of that is going to be guaranteed. Butler was arguably the best free agent cornerback on the market. This is a big splash for the Titans!
Calling the Shot
Back in February, the FPC Titans group talked about how Malcolm Butler made a lot of sense for this team. Butler is young and proven himself time and time again throughout his career. It’s no secret that Jon Robinson loves the out of no-where star players. Butler fits that category perfectly, coming out of a Division 2 West Alabama. This isn’t the first time that the Titans have signed a former Patriot to help their secondary. Just last year Logan Ryan signed a 3-year contract worth 30 million.
Malcolm Butler will be reunited with Ryan but also former Patriots LB and current Titan head coach Mike Vrabel. Butler is only 28 and now teams up with Adoree’ Jackson and Logan Ryan for the foreseeable future. The Titans secondary is shaping up nicely. At corner, they currently have Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, Adoree’ Jackson and LeShaun Sims. At free safety, they have Kevin Byard and Jonathan Cyprien at strong safety. Adding Butler to this secondary is a solid move and a very telling move as well. Robinson is acknowledging where they needed to improve and took action. Butler was a premier free agent, with many teams interested. Snagging him is just the start of what Robinson plans to do with his time in Tennessee. Get ready Titans fans, it’s only going to get better from here.
