Every Jets fan woke up Tuesday morning hoping it would be Christmas with a Kirk Cousins present under the tree and some high-quality talent presents everywhere. But sadly that was not the case. Through the day the Jets remained quiet while Cousins went to the Frozen Tundra, Malcolm Butler and Dion Lewis went to Tennessee and all of the Jets unrestricted free agents went to or are going somewhere else.
But then as all hope seemed lost (and some very angry Tweets sent) GM Maccagnan sprang into action finally and picked up a quarterback…Then another quarterback, a running back and a cornerback.
Jets Free Agency Overview
The Jets signed Teddy Bridgewater (Plan B) and Josh McCown to a split 10 million dollar, one year deal (McCown and Bridgewater split five million). This was the backup plan after failing to get Cousins: Get two quarterbacks and then draft another, which this is a smart back up plan to have. This covers all the basics, journeyman bridge QB (McCown), short-term QB (Bridgewater), and draft/long-term QB (To be determined).
Then in a surprise move, the Jets picked up former Browns running back Isaiah Crowell to a three-year deal. After the retirement of legend running back, Matt Forte the Jets backfield was lacking and the GM boosted that with Crowell. While some are still skeptical about the former Browns running back due to a less than adequate season, should he fit into the system he could do better than when he was in the Dawg Pound.

The biggest shock to Jets fan everywhere (and even some reporters) was the signing of cornerback Trumaine Johnson from the LA Rams. Johnson is a top-tier cornerback that nobody expected to go to this desperate secondary, which needs help. Johnson can help the Jets be a defense not to trifle with like when Darrelle Revis was there chilling on Revis Island.
The last person acquired on legal tampering day was Avery Williamson from the Tennessee Titans. The 26-year-old Inside Linebacker was offered a 12 million dollar contract but declined it to test the water, and landed with the Jets. With Williamson signing, signals the end of Demario Davis and his second stint with the Jets who will be a missed player. With Williamson joining Gang green his shoes are pretty big to fill since it was David “Hitman” Harris before Davis’ but Williamson is up to the challenge and will make the Hitman proud.
