The Dallas Cowboys made their highest profile free agent signing in years Friday when they agreed to terms with former Jaguars wide receiver Allen Hurns. The University of Miami product will sign a two-year deal worth up to $12 million.
Since 2014, Hurns has accumulated 189 receptions, 2,669 yards, and 21 touchdowns. For comparison, during that same time span, Terrance Williams totaled 186 receptions, 2,623 yards, and 15 touchdowns. However, Hurns achieved his numbers playing in 12 fewer games than Williams due to injury.
At 6’3″ 200 lbs, Hurns might slightly resemble another #88 already on the Dallas roster – Dez Bryant. Despite the fact that Hurns best position is the ‘X’ which happens to be the spot Bryant currently occupies, the latter is in no danger of losing his job, yet.

Cowboys insider Mike Fisher has been all over this “Dez drama” since the season ended. There is no denying there is a faction of the Dallas front office that is looking for any way possible to move on from Bryant. By bringing on Hurns, would the Cowboys now feel as though they have the leverage to ask #88 to take a pay cut, or be cut? Only time will tell, but for now it appears the Cowboys wide reciever room is one happy family.
