Many of the conference championship game participants are yet to be decided. Let’s dive into the conference championship game scenarios to get an understanding of how everything could break down.
Conference championship game scenarios
A quick guide
Central Florida has already punched their ticket to the AAC title game with their win over Cincinnati. On the other side, Houston will travel to Memphis with a berth in the title game at stake. Unfortunately for Houston, D’Eriq King will miss the game after suffering a knee injury against Tulane. Additionally, Memphis holds tiebreakers over Tulane and SMU should both teams win along with the Tigers.
As we continue moving through the conference championship game scenarios, Clemson and Pittsburgh have each already claimed berths in the ACC title game.
Certainly, this one is quite simple. The winner of Michigan versus Ohio State will face Northwestern, who already secured their spot in the title game.
With a win over Kansas, Texas would clinch a berth in the Big 12 title game. Then, the winner of Oklahoma versus West Virginia would face the Longhorns. However, if Texas were to lose to the Jayhawks, West Virginia would make the title game to face OU, regardless of the outcome of this weeks game between the two.
UAB has already earned a berth in the C-USA title game where they await either Florida International or Middle Tennessee. FIU beat MTSU earlier this year, meaning they have the tiebreaker. FIU simply needs to beat Marshall to claim the East, which means if MTSU wins and FIU loses, then MTSU moves on. MTSU faces UAB this week in what could be a preview for the title game should MTSU win and FIU loses.
Northern Illinois is already set to play for the MAC title. However, the MAC East is a bit more interesting. Buffalo can win by simply defeating Bowling Green. However, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio are still alive if Buffalo loses. If Miami beats Ball State on Tuesday night, that would eliminate Ohio. Ohio’s only chance is for both Buffalo and Miami to lose.

Utah State faces Boise State which will determine the Mountain division champ. Whoever wins that battle will face Fresno State, who claimed a berth after taking care of San Diego State last week.
The North division will simply be decided by the result of the Washington State versus Washington game. The winner will move on to face Utah who clinched a berth last week.
Obviously, this is one of the conference championship game scenarios that is solved as Alabama will face Georgia.
The East division comes down to a matchup between Appalachian State and Troy to determine the winner. However, the West is a bit more complicated. Three teams remain in the hunt which includes the following: Arkansas State, Louisiana, and Louisiana-Monroe. Louisiana and ULM play each other in an elimination game. A State faces Texas State on the road. If Arkansas State and Louisiana win, then Louisiana goes to the title game. If A State and ULM win, then A State gets the nod. ULM’s only chance is defeating Louisiana and Texas State somehow slipping past Arkansas State.
We made it through each of the conference championship game scenarios. Now, it’s time to see what happens this weekend!
