The defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers are 2-0 after nearly doubling up division rival Atlanta on Sunday, however, not all is good by the Bay… especially on defense.
Despite intercepting Matt Ryan three times, twice for touchdowns, the Buccaneers secondary is dangerously thin after losing Sean Murphy Bunting to a dislocated elbow in Week One. In addition, Carlton Davis, the next cornerback on the depth chart, has been dealing with a hamstring injury and had to leave the game against the Falcons for a short while to deal with it. Through two weeks, the Bucs have allowed 684 passing yards and five touchdowns to Dak Prescott and Matt Ryan.
That is why, when asked about free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman, Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians didn’t hide the team’s interest.

“Jason’s reached out,” Arians told reporters, per The Athletic’s Greg Auman. “We’ve got to see. He’s got other things going on, too. Just a matter of I coach the ones we’ve got and let (Licht) handle the rest of that. We’ll kick the tires on some other guys, too.”

Sherman, 33, played the last three seasons in San Francisco following a seven-year stint in Seattle to start his career. During his time in the Pacific Northwest playing for the Seahawks, Sherman was a four-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro, and a Super Bowl champion. He had 32 interceptions in 105 games.
Of course, Sherman still has looming legal issues stemming from an arrest earlier this year that may warrant NFL discipline. However, if he were able to play, he would be a quality addition to a hurting Buccaneers’ defensive backfield.
Tampa Bay is set to take on Matt Stafford and the Rams in Week Three.
