It has only been a little over a week since Triple H took over as head of creative for WWE, but in that time, things are noticeably different. And for the better. Gone is the goofiness of trying to fill hours of programming as Triple H is bringing back wrestling to a wrestling show. While it is entertainment and it is a sport, fans were not being entertained seeing the same stuff week in and week out from Vince McMahon. Triple H was the perfect guy to fill his role because he is giving the people exactly what they want.
Triple H Student of Wrestling
Many people wondered what the transition would be like from Vince McMahon to Triple H in terms of creativity for WWE. Well if the first week has shown us anything, he gets it. While he understands it is hard to fill the shoes of McMahon, Triple H is going to take the company to new heights creatively and do something Vince was reluctant to do. Give the fans more wrestling and make new stars.
In just a short amount of time, the length of matches has drastically increased from the previous regime. And the matches themselves are good. That is because Triple H had years of practice honing his craft to make NXT Black and Gold the best brand it could possibly be. He gets what the fans want. They are tired of long drawn-out segments to fill time. Fans want action and good action. Not to mention different talents represented.
Wrestling fans are smart. They do not want to be treated otherwise. That is what WWE under Vince McMahon did to the wrestling fan. Especially fans of the original NXT. Those fans knew who had what it took to make on the main roster. Something Vince lost track of. Again that was Triple H’s baby and there were reasons why he signed the guys that he did because they had the IT factor.

Remaking the Mid Card
Take for example Tommaso Ciampa who is now Ciampa. This guy put his blood, sweat, and tears into everything he did on NXT. One of the best NXT champions in history. He was the brand as he labeled himself the greatest sports entertainer in the world. His character was great along with his music. However, when he first came up, Vince just did not know what to do with him. And fans wondered if Ciampa would be like the rest of the NXT call-ups and become a 24/7 nerd.

That all changed with Triple H taking over as Ciampa is being pushed into the US Title picture after winning an excellent triple threat match on RAW before defeating AJ Styles later in the night. Both matches were long and showed why Ciampa is the guy of the future. That can’t be done in short and quick three to four-minute matches. Triple H understands that.
He also understands the importance of having a mid-card because those wrestlers are the future of the company with Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar being part-timers. Though Ciampa went over a guy like Ali was showcased in that triple threat match with Ciampa and Chad Gable. Fans just want good quality wrestling. Not goofy stuff. Gone are the days of the 24/7 geeks on TV. Back are the days of good quality wrestling matches to entertain the fans.
Just look what he is doing for the mid-card titles. Prior to the two triple threat matches on RAW, he ran a package about the importance of the US title in wrestling. Titles have to matter. And the US Title is being elevated to a place it has not been in a long time. The wrestlers holding those titles have to feel important. Triple H understands the history of the business just like the fans do and he wants to display his knowledge to them.
Because if a wrestler can perform at the mid-card and make a title important, he can be a star at the top of the card as well. Not all can, but having that mid-card wrestler is important to the product because they can set the tone for what is to come in the show.
Women’s Wrestling To Be Featured More
And it is just not the men who are getting the push, the women are too. Io Sharai now IYO SKY had an excellent match with Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. Despite the finish, they had an 18-minute match. That is what needed to happen instead of all these women being lumped together. With the return of Bayley and Dakota Kai along with Sky, there will be other feuds outside the title picture. Something AEW is finally understanding.
But the whole Women’s Revolution was lost on Vince. He wanted it like the good ole days when in fact women’s wrestling is entertaining and fans want that. But Triple H understood that being the head of creative for NXT. The four horsewomen of WWE carried the division and fans are still talking about those famous matches years after.
Product At A Whole Benefiting the Most
It is just not the performers too, the commentators are into the matches now. No longer are they being yelled at in their ears. They are allowed to call the matches as they see them and bring personality to the broadcast role to engage the fans at home. Michael Cole at Summerslam and on Smackdown are allowed to incorporate a wrestler’s past. I mean Xavier Woods on the go-home show of Smackdown mentioned New Japan Pro Wrestling and ROH. That would have never happened under Vince.
Vince wanted these characters to be fresh like they were being seen for the first time, but that was never the case. That is why a lot of NXT guys never went over. Now with Triple H at the helm, everyone is benefitting from him being head of creative.
Triple H understood going up against AEW (probably not his choice) on Wednesday nights for over a year, that fans want to see wrestling matches and less talking. As we saw on Raw and at Summerslam. Both shows were paced well in terms of the packages and wrestling. There was not a lot of fill time. Angles made sense. Booking decisions were good. Some of the finishes can be worked on, but can’t expect things to change overnight and that quickly.
Clearly, Triple H was the right man for this job.
