While most turn to the popular games, the author chooses games that provide an under-the-radar look at 2023’s interesting games.
Every Sunday, the majority of the NFL fanbase will flock to the marquee games in droves. Yet, with so many stories bubbling under the surface, no boring game really actually exists. As a result, hundreds of games may not receive highlight recognition. At the same time, diehards know what to look for. Below, three intrigue-filled games that will spark interest.
Patriots at Raiders (October 15th)
First, let’s get the NFL main story dealt with. Raiders’ head coach Josh McDaniels served as Bill Belichick’s offensive coordinator for thirteen seasons. After enjoying phenomenal success, the student heads west to carve out a singular legacy, apart from the Patriot Way. During his tenure in the desert, McDaniels attempts to emulate the New England formula. However, the return on investment has not paid off..yet. Now, these two former colleagues, one mentor, one student meet at Allegiant Stadium. The Patriots stand behind Mac Jones. Jones stands at 16-15, with a good completion percentage and suspect touchdown-to-interception ratio. The Patriots surrounded him with offensive talent. Meanwhile, the Raiders trust Jimmy Garoppolo, another former Patriot to lead them. McDaniels needs this win for validation.
Packers at Steelers (November 12th)
In a battle of young NFL quarterbacks featuring a stout defense, here we are. Kenny Pickett, fresh off a 7-5 rookie season, leads the Steelers squad that set him up for success. Najee Harris helms a running game that exemplifies Pittsburgh football. By battering opponents, Pickett can operate in space. Pickett can operate as just a better-than-average game manager, for 2023. On the other side, Jordan Love hopes to dice right in. Remember, Pittsburgh faces the Ravens and Bengals. Meanwhile, Green Bay contends with Minnesota. With this in mind, this game feels fun. Each quarterback replaced Super Bowl-winning, all-time greats. Both passers endure answers about their readiness to ascend the throne. As mentioned, strong defense wins this game, with at least six combined pass rushers to make quarterbacks miserable.

Panthers at Jaguars (December 31st)
In this game, Bryce Young presumably ends his first NFL season as the face of the Carolina Panthers. Across the field, he sees Trevor Lawrence, a quarterback path to emulate. By the time New Years Eve rolls around, how will the Panthers’ season progress. By all accounts, so far, Carolina Panthers seems rather impressed with their young (no pun intended) signalcaller. Now, can the Panthers finish strong. Young boasts an astute quarterback mind in Frank Reich. In contrast, the Jaguars, probably locked up a playoff spot, now look for the chance to secure a home playoff game. Provided the Panthers can protect Young, this game feels like a high-scoring affair. Granted, no one said that NFC South looks solidified. Under those consequences, this game could possess meaning for Carolina as well.
Overview
Media and the sort with will fawn over the marquee games, involved the cream of the NFL crop. For this reason, a deeper dive under the surface will make for entertaining viewing. By all means, stick with the big names. Then again, when on vacation, do you want to eat at a chain restaurant or the local hole-in-the-wall? No one goes to New Orleans for a Big Mac. Look at the NFL regular season the same way.
