When the Cleveland Browns take on the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, they will be doing so without starting quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson has been declared out for Week 6’s matchup, with P.J. Walker drawing the start for the Browns. Cleveland’s signal-caller has been dealing with a bruised rotator cuff, an injury that can take a long time to heal.
Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot made an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday to discuss Watson’s injury. Cabot mentioned that Watson feels that he should be able to play, but yet again, Cleveland will be without his services.
"Deshaun Watson has a bruised rotator cuff and it takes 2-6 weeks to fully heal from such an injury..
This Sunday would be 3 weeks but if he feels ready to go he's gonna play" @MaryKayCabot #PMSLive https://t.co/e0MqQiR0iZ pic.twitter.com/FZCcMc5Zmq

This development is very much expected, considering that Watson has not been trending in the right direction all week. Watson has not participated in practice, with his only work being done indoors. That alone was enough to be skeptical about his ability to play this Sunday. Adding on top of that was head coach Kevin Stefanski naming Walker the starter if Watson was unable to go mid-week. That should have sent off alarms right then and there for everyone who was listening.
This week’s matchup with San Francisco was going to be incredibly difficult with Watson. But without him, that task becomes near-impossible, as they will need a miracle just to keep the game close.
