There has been some ugly football when it comes to certain teams this season. However, there are other clubs on a roll. Both the 49ers and Eagles own 5-0 record. The reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs have won four straight games after a Week 1 loss.
The Seahawks (off last week) and Lions have won three in a row. Detroit has as many wins (4) as the rest of the teams in the NFC North combined.
The schedule is highlighted by seven head-to-head battles between the AFC and NFC.
Off: Green Bay, Pittsburgh
Thursday, Oct. 12
Denver (1-4) at Kansas City (4-1): The last time the Broncos knocked off Kansas City was also the last season the franchise made the playoffs. That was 2015, the year the club went on to win Super Bowl 50. Make it 15 straight losses for Denver vs. the Chiefs, who are playing their first divisional game of 2023.
Sunday, Oct. 15
Baltimore (3-2) vs. Tennessee (2-3) (Tottenham): John Harbaugh’s team was shut out in the second half of last week’s loss at Pittsburgh. The Ravens have been a fast starter this season, outscoring opponents a combined 35-3 in the first quarter. The Titans have not scored a first-quarter touchdown in five games.
Washington (2-3) at Atlanta (3-2): In a Week 1 win over the Cardinals, Ron Rivera’s defense did not give up an offensive touchdown. In their last four outings, the Commanders have surrendered a whopping 144 points and 14 offensive TDs. The Falcons have scored 70 points in three wins and 13 points in two losses.
Minnesota (1-4) at Chicago (1-4): The reigning NFC North champions have already lost as many regular-season games as they did a year ago. Chicago snapped its 14-game losing streak a week ago. The Bears have lost 10 straight games vs. NFC North rivals dating back to Week 14 of 2021, four to the Vikings.
Seattle (3-1) at Cincinnati (2-3): The Seahawks have averaged a brisk 32.6 points per game following their Week 1 home loss to the Rams. In four games this season, Pete Carroll’s club has turned over the ball just once. Cincinnati is next-to-last in the league in rushing offense and next-to-last in stopping the run.
San Francisco (5-0) at Cleveland (2-2): Kyle Shanahan’s club comes off a 32-point win over Dallas. The Niners’ offensive unit scored six TDs. That’s one more than the Browns’ defense has given up (5) in one fewer game. Could Cleveland use a third different starting quarterback (P.J. Walker) this Sunday?
New Orleans (3-2) at Houston (2-3): Dennis Allen’s team got back in the win column last Sunday at New England. Only three teams in the league have allowed fewer points per game than the Saints. Can this defense force promising Texans’ rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud into the first interception of his career?
Indianapolis (3-2) at Jacksonville (3-2): It’s the first divisional rematch of the season. If recent history follows suit, the Colts get the win with one-time Jaguars’ quarterback Gardner Minshew getting the start. That’s because these two teams have split their two-game set five straight years dating back to 2018.

Carolina (0-5) at Miami (4-1): The lone winless team in the league this season has its issues against the run this season. Now the Panthers take on the NFL’s top-ranked ground attack. Dolphins’ standout rookie De’Von Achane was placed on IR. Carolina’s defensive unit has given up 16 offensive TDs.
New England (1-4) at Las Vegas (2-3): Bill Belichick’s team has been outscored a combined 72-3 in their last two games. The Patriots are averaging an NFL-low 11.0 points per contest. The Raiders have yet to reach the 20-point mark in 2023. Since 2020, these franchises own identical 26-29 regular-season records.
Arizona (1-4) at L.A. Rams (2-3): This has been the Rams’ series since Sean McVay came aboard in 2017. Including playoffs, the team owns an 11-2 record vs. their NFC West rival. Don’t change the channel in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals have been outscored a whopping 54-7 in the final 15 minutes of play.
Philadelphia (5-0) at N.Y. Jets (2-3): The Jets seek their first-ever regular-season victory in a series that dates back to 1973. This actually marks the third meeting in five seasons by these clubs, with Philadelphia owning a 12-0 mark. Jets’ running back Breece Hall faces the NFL’s top-ranked run defense.
Detroit (4-1) at Tampa Bay (3-1): This battle of first-place team shifts to the late Sunday afternoon window and with good reason. The Lions are riding a three-game winning streak and only three teams in the league are averaging more points per game. The Buccaneers have forced 10 turnovers in four outings.

N.Y. Giants (1-4) at Buffalo (3-2): In the first half this season, Brian Daboll’s club has managed four field goals and a 102-yard interception return by Jason Pinnock. The Giants have been outscored a combined 94-19 in the first two quarters. The up-and-down Bills lead the league with 13 takeaways in five games.
Monday, Oct. 16
Dallas (3-2) at L.A. Chargers (2-2): The Cowboys’ pass rush is one of the best in the NFL and Micah Parsons has four of the team’s 15 sacks. However, it’s worth noting that the Chargers have done Dallas one better with 16 QB traps and have played one less game. Justin Herbert is completing 71.0 percent of his passes.
