This is the first of two weeks this season in which there will only be 13 games played. With the 49ers and Eagles suffering their first losses of 2023, the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs owns the league’s longest active winning streak via five consecutive victories.
On the other hand, the NFL’s lone winless team won’t have any chance of losing this week. That’s because the 0-6 Carolina Panthers are one of six clubs with Week 7 off.
Once again, there are plenty of fascinating numbers as the season unfolds.

The Detroit Lions continue to impress and have done a 180 from a year ago. Dan Campbell’s feisty team dropped five of its first six games last season on the way to a 1-6 start. In those first six contests, the team gave up 194 points and 21 offensive touchdowns. This year, Campbell’s club is 5-1 and riding a four-game winning streak. The Lions have allowed 110 points (37 in an overtime loss to Seattle) and 11 offensive TDs.

It’s already been a rough year for the New York Giants, who are off to a 1-5 start and have scored only five offensive touchdowns. This week’s opponent is the Washington Commanders, who snapped a three-game skid last week with a win at Atlanta. Under Brian Daboll (including playoffs), the Giants are a dismal 1-6-1 vs. their NFC East rivals. However, the Commanders are the one club (1-0-1) Daboll’s club hasn’t lost to.

It wasn’t long ago that Bill owned the Bills. Pun intended, the New England Patriots amassed an imposing 35-5 record vs. Buffalo in head coach Bill Belichick’s first 20 seasons as head coach. Dating back to 2020 and including a 47-17 playoff win in 2021, the team from Orchard Park owns a 6-1 mark in this AFC East series. Meanwhile, Sean McDermott’s club has also averaged 30.1 points per game in those seven outings.

A year ago, Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts enjoyed a breakout season and helped lead Philadelphia to Super Bowl LVII. He played in a total of 18 games, including three postseason contests, and gave up the football just nine times via six interceptions and three fumble recoveries. During the club’s 5-1 start this season, Hurts has already thrown one more pick (7) than he did in 2022 and has a total of eight turnovers.

Kyle Shanahan’s team is coming off its first loss in 2023 and will be at Minnesota on Monday night to take on the Vikings. Kevin O’Connell’s club still leads the league with 13 turnovers. Meanwhile, the 49ers have given up the ball just three times, tied for the fewest in the NFL with the Texans, Chargers, and Seahawks. Houston and San Francisco have played in six games, compared to five for both Los Angeles and Seattle.
