Give credit where it’s due. Eight games into the season, the Houston Texans have already surpassed last year’s victory total. Granted, this was a 3-13-1 team in 2022. However, quarterback C.J. Stroud could be the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Of course, four is also the number of consecutive games the Bengals have won after a 1-3 start. For what it’s worth, the Texans have won their last four games at Cincinnati.

Last week, the San Francisco 49ers didn’t lose for the first time since Week 5. Then again, Kyle Shanahan’s team didn’t play. Either did the Jacksonville Jaguars, who host the Niners on Sunday. Shanahan’s club has lost three straight games after a 5-0 start. The defense has allowed seven offensive TDs, the same number they gave up in their first five contests. The 49ers have totaled seven turnovers during this current skid.

The leaders of the AFC North have been on quite the roll as of late. The Baltimore Ravens have won four straight games. They have scored 130 points and totaled 14 offensive touchdowns during that span. Meanwhile, the 5-3 Browns have surrendered 139 points and 15 offensive touchdowns in eight contests. However, 28 of those points and four of those offensive TDs came in a Week 4 home loss to the Ravens.

A trip east to Baltimore made for a very long flight home for Pete Carroll’s club. Last week, the Seahawks were blasted by the Ravens, 37-3. They were outgained by 364 yards (515-151) and never reached the end zone. Once again, quarterback Geno Smith had his issues with ball security. For the fourth straight game, giving him eight turnovers over that stretch. Smith committed one turnover in his first four outings.

It’s been a rough year for two teams that have New York in front of their name. Last week, the Giants and Jets were both limited to six points (the Giants scored a TD) and their losses to the Raiders (30-6) and Chargers (27-6) added up to a combined score of 57-12. The Giants’ (9) and Jets’ (8) have combined for 17 offensive touchdowns. A total of 19 teams in the league have scored 17-plus offensive TDs this season.
