The Kenny Pickett experience has not gone well for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it is becoming clear that they have a major problem. Pickett has not been able to build off a so-so rookie season and may be showing that there is not much more to his game.
The numbers of the former first-round pick out of Pittsburgh have not been all that encouraging. Pickett has completed 60.5% of his passes for 1,722 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions while being sacked 21 times. This amounts to a 29th-ranked completion percentage, 33rd in yards per game, 28th in touchdown passes, and 10th most yards lost via sacks (163).
Pickett’s deficiencies as a passer were on display in their loss to the Browns this past weekend. The 25-year-old signal caller completed just 15 of 28 passes for 106 yards while being sacked three times. Granted, not much was expected from Pickett against Cleveland’s elite defense. However, his decision-making has not been particularly good this season, as evidenced in this throw to nobody.

While this throw was hardly encouraging, there may be some good news for the select few who still believe in Pickett. The Steelers have parted ways with offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Perhaps Canada’s removal from the equation can lead to better performances from Pickett.
As awful as Pickett has been, not all is lost. Pickett already has six 4th quarter comebacks and seven game-winning drives in his young career. There is something to be said about quarterbacks who can engineer late-game heroics despite their overall numbers being less-than-stellar. A new offensive coordinator next season could unlock additional parts of Pickett’s game, making him a more rounded quarterback. If not, Pittsburgh could very well be in the market for a new starting quarterback sooner rather than later.
