The Chicago Bears still have a quarterback decision to make before facing the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.
As of Saturday morning, September 26, Case Keenum is the option if Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent cannot play. Both injured quarterbacks missed Friday’s practice, according to the latest Eagles–Bears injury report. That leaves Keenum preparing for a potential start, with the final decision still pending.
What Is Caleb Williams’ Injury Status?
Williams is dealing with a hamstring injury suffered in the fourth quarter of Chicago’s loss to Minnesota. His absence Friday followed an estimated nonparticipation designation Thursday, when the Bears did not hold a practice.
Earlier in the week, Ben Johnson described Williams as week-to-week without ruling him out against Philadelphia. A missed practice and an official game designation are different updates; the former should not be presented as confirmation that he is out.
Why Isn’t Tyson Bagent the Automatic Replacement?
Bagent is in concussion protocol after replacing Williams against the Vikings. He also did not practice Friday.
Chicago therefore has uncertainty at both the starting and backup spots. Williams’ injury alone does not settle who takes the first snap Monday, because Bagent’s availability remains a separate question.
Where Case Keenum Fits
The Bears reported that Keenum worked with the first-team offense Wednesday. If both quarterbacks ahead of him are unavailable, he would start, with practice-squad rookie Miller Moss a potential backup option.
Johnson has expressed confidence in the depth of the quarterback room and stressed the responsibility of the supporting cast. His preparation message has centered on the entire offense executing, whichever quarterback plays.
For now, the accurate description is that Keenum is preparing for the possibility. Naming him the confirmed starter would go beyond the available team updates.
What Happens Next?
The next checkpoints are Chicago’s final injury designations and any explicit announcement of a starter. Those updates will help separate the available quarterbacks from the eventual choice.
