Panthers Place Jaycee Horn, Mike Jackson on IR: Secondary Takes Major Hit

The Carolina Panthers placed starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson on injured reserve Wednesday, leaving their secondary without both outside starters after injuries in Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns.

According to the Panthers’ announcement, Horn suffered what head coach Dave Canales described as a “significant quad injury.” Jackson left the game with a groin injury and did not return.

Who is available at cornerback?

Rookie Will Lee III, Akayleb Evans and Chau Smith-Wade are the cornerbacks on Carolina’s active roster. The injuries create a larger opportunity for Lee, while putting the depth of the entire position group under scrutiny.

The immediate question is how Carolina divides those responsibilities. Losing both starters at once increases the importance of communication and dependable coverage from the remaining corners.

Panthers make additional roster moves

Carolina signed wide receiver David Moore and running back Anthony Tyus III from the practice squad to fill the open roster spots. The Panthers also added cornerback Robert Rochell to their practice squad.
