Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson‘s status for Week 5 is uncertain after he suffered a left ankle injury during Sunday’s 24-18 win over the Tennessee Titans.

Jackson left the game after the first half and was later seen wearing a protective boot. The early news is encouraging in one important sense: Baltimore does not believe the injury is a major long-term issue. But that is not the same thing as saying Jackson will be ready for Sunday night’s road game against the Atlanta Falcons.

What Happened to Lamar Jackson?

Jackson was injured late in the first half while trying to evade a sack. He did not return after halftime.

Before leaving, Jackson completed 15 of 20 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns while adding 20 rushing yards. Baltimore carried a 24-10 lead into the break, but the offense did not score in the second half after Tyler Huntley took over.

Snapshot 2026-10-06 · Full Press Coverage

Jackson was described as day-to-day in the immediate aftermath of the game, and head coach Jesse Minter said Monday that the Ravens are optimistic the injury is not “crazy long-term.” Baltimore is expected to provide another update Wednesday after additional evaluation.

Will Lamar Jackson Play Week 5 vs. the Falcons?

As of Tuesday morning, Jackson has not been ruled out for Week 5.

That makes his participation in practice the next major indicator. If Jackson can return in some capacity Wednesday or Thursday, Baltimore would have a realistic path toward having him available Sunday night. If he remains sidelined throughout the week, Huntley would become increasingly likely to start.

The Ravens do not have much incentive to rush the decision. Baltimore is 3-1 and tied atop the AFC North, and Jackson’s mobility is central to both the designed running game and the way he escapes pressure. An ankle injury that limits that part of his game could change the offense even if he is medically cleared to play.

Tyler Huntley Is Next in Line

If Jackson cannot go, Huntley is expected to start against Atlanta.

Huntley was efficient in relief against Tennessee, completing 8 of 9 passes for 63 yards and adding 16 rushing yards on four carries. He has extensive familiarity with Baltimore’s offense and has made 11 previous starts for the Ravens, giving the team a more experienced fallback option than many contenders have behind their starter.

Still, Baltimore’s second-half performance against Tennessee showed the obvious difference. The Ravens were held scoreless after Jackson left, allowing the Titans to make the game uncomfortable late.

Why the Timing Matters

Baltimore’s Week 5 matchup is not an easy place to test an injured quarterback.

The Ravens travel to Atlanta for Sunday Night Football on Oct. 11 at 8:20 p.m. ET. The Falcons are coming off a 45-24 win over the Saints and have now won two straight since Michael Penix Jr. returned to the lineup.

Atlanta’s offense has found a rhythm behind Bijan Robinson, while its defense has been able to play from advantageous situations once the Falcons build a lead. If Jackson is unavailable, Baltimore may need a much cleaner game from its running attack and defense to avoid asking Huntley to win a high-scoring road game.

When Will the Ravens Know More?

Wednesday should bring the first meaningful update of the week.

The Ravens will release their initial Week 5 injury report, and Jackson’s practice designation will offer a clearer sense of where things stand. A limited session would be encouraging. A missed practice would not necessarily rule him out, but it would keep Huntley firmly in the picture.

For now, the most accurate description is simple: Jackson appears to have avoided a major long-term ankle injury, but his Week 5 status remains unresolved.
