Miami Dolphins veteran cornerback Xavien Howard officially requested a trade from the team, via a personal statement, Tuesday night.
The most trivial lines?
“I don’t feel valued, or respected by the Dolphins. Just like they can take a business-first approach, so can I.” … “We wanted things to work out with the Dolphins, and brought solutions to the table… that we felt were win-wins for both sides.”… “Until that trade happens I’m just so I don’t get fined, and will handle myself like professionals do.”
Howard was absent for the team’s three-day minicamp in June and he skipped Miami’s mandatory offseason workouts, costing him $93,000 in fines due to his feelings towards his contract.
Despite a shocking report to weigh-ins ahead of training camp just this morning, he made it clear he wanted a new deal. But the Dolphins failed to meet his request in his eyes. Because of that, he is looking to wear a new uniform and sign a new deal in the process.

Howard led the NFL with 10 interceptions last season and was named an All-Pro after his season’s performance. Because of his numbers, he felt he out-performed what he was getting paid by the team. Especially when someone at the same position on his own team makes more than him. So, Howard broke his silence and went to Instagram to voice his reasoning, broke the standstill and put the ball in the Dolphins’ court.
Will Howard be traded by the time the season starts? Full Press Dolphins will continue updating Miami and Howard’s situation as more information becomes available.
