As the Patriots prepare to open the season this Sunday against the Eagles and welcome back their former quarterback, seven-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady, their current quarterback, Mac Jones, opened up about his relationship with the player’s shoes he is trying to fill.
“Yeah, I mean, he’s definitely a legend, and I have all the respect for him,” Jones said during his weekly interview on WEEI in Boston. “He’s a great guy and he’s actually helped me a lot already, just talking to him or whatever, he’s been a great mentor and stuff.”
Brady, of course, retired this offseason following his third year in Tampa Bay and considering we are just days away from the start of a new season, it seems as though this one is actually going to stick. However, Jones, and many other quarterbacks, will be studying how Brady played the game for 23 seasons. Jones just happens to have the ear of Brady as well.

“He’s a great player, love watching his film. He pops up on game tape, obviously, from last year and everything too. So he’s always on the film doing the right thing, so just I’m trying to learn from him, and he’s been awesome.”

Jones is entering his third NFL season, and after a promising rookie year, he stumbled during his second season under the offensive tutelage of Matt Patricia. Needless to say, with Bill O’Brien in tow and upgrades to the offensive skill positions, year three for Jones is critical for his future. Probably not a bad thing to heed advice from the greatest of all time.
