It was no secret that Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt was injured for most of the season. The seven-year veteran had a ruptured adductor and has undergone sports hernia surgery.
Despite being hurt, Hunt was still a relatively productive back at times. Hunt finished the 2023 season with nine rushing touchdowns, a career-high. Despite setting a new career benchmark, Hunt’s 27.4 rushing yards per game was his lowest in a season when playing more than eight games and the second-lowest overall. The lack of production this past season does not entirely fall on him, however. Cleveland sustained multiple injuries on the offensive line this past season. These injuries would make it incredibly difficult for any non-elite back to produce consistently. With that said, Hunt has been mostly ineffective on the ground in Browns uniform outside a few short but memorable bursts.

Hunt rejoined the Browns after Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2. It was a logical reunion for the two parties, as Cleveland was in desperate need of running back production. Having someone familiar with the team and offensive verbiage reduced the learning curve, making it much easier to integrate him into the game plan.
While Hunt contributed to the Browns’ offensive efforts this past season, another return may not be in the cards. It took an injury for Hunt to come back in the first place. This was after an entire summer of relative inactivity on the free agent front for Hunt. Unless the Browns find themselves in a state of desperation once again, Hunt may be playing elsewhere or residing at home, idle once again.
