Odell Beckham Jr.’s return to New York is no longer just a feel-good offseason story.
He’s officially made the Giants.
The 33-year-old wide receiver earned a place on New York’s initial 53-man roster Sunday after spending the summer proving he could still get open—and, perhaps more importantly, stay healthy after sitting out the entire 2025 season.
That’s a meaningful accomplishment considering Beckham wasn’t simply handed a roster spot because of his history with the franchise.
His preseason finale provided one final argument. Beckham caught three passes for 53 yards against the Jets, capping what head coach John Harbaugh had called his best stretch of the summer.
Now comes the interesting part.
Nobody should expect the Beckham who exploded onto the scene in 2014 with 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns as a rookie. The Giants don’t need that player anymore. With younger options around him, Beckham can provide situational receiving help while becoming an experienced voice for the rest of the room.
But there’s something undeniably fitting about the reunion.
Beckham accumulated 5,476 receiving yards and 44 touchdowns in only 59 games during his original Giants tenure. More than seven years after his first run in New York ended, he now gets an opportunity to write another chapter rather than merely reminisce about the first one.
For Beckham, making the roster was the first victory.
Anything he contributes from here makes one of the NFL’s more fascinating homecomings even better.
