Three weeks into the 2026 NFL season, the “small sample size” shield is starting to crack.
The Raiders are 3-0. The Vikings are 3-0. The 49ers, Bills and Chiefs are still clean. Meanwhile, the Seahawks finally took a hit, the Eagles got humbled on Monday night, the Texans still have not won a game and the Buccaneers are now staring at a stretch without Baker Mayfield.
That does not mean everything is settled.
It does mean the early-season excuses are getting more expensive.
Here are the Full Press Coverage NFL Power Rankings entering Week 4.
NFL Power Rankings
Miami Dolphins
0-3The Dolphins remain at the bottom because nothing about the first three weeks has made a convincing case otherwise. Losing to Kansas City is understandable, but losing 24-10 while still searching for a clear identity keeps Miami stuck here. At some point, “the schedule is hard” stops being an explanation and starts becoming the season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
0-3This is where results and reality collide. Tampa Bay is winless, just lost to Minnesota, and now Baker Mayfield is expected to miss at least three weeks with a dislocated thumb. Jalon Daniels may be interesting long term, but asking a rookie quarterback to rescue an 0-3 team is not exactly the preferred September plan.
Tennessee Titans
0-3The Titans keep playing games that look competitive on the scoreboard and troubling everywhere else. A 12-7 loss to the Giants is not a moral victory. Tennessee’s defense can keep the team hanging around, but the offense is making every drive feel like a construction project.
Houston Texans
0-3Houston’s slide is officially no longer a correction. It is a problem. The Texans followed two frustrating losses with a 19-17 defeat to Indianapolis, and the preseason version of this team feels increasingly disconnected from the one actually taking the field.
Los Angeles Chargers
0-3The Chargers played Buffalo better than the record suggests, but 0-3 is still 0-3. Losing by eight to the Bills is not embarrassing. Starting the season with three straight losses after entering the year with playoff expectations absolutely is.
Carolina Panthers
1-2Carolina’s Week 2 blowout win over Atlanta bought some credibility. Losing 21-18 to Cleveland spent a chunk of it. The Panthers are more competitive than they looked in the opener, but they still have not shown enough consistency to climb.
New York Jets
1-2The Jets were better offensively in Detroit, but the result was still a 31-24 loss. That keeps them in the same neighborhood as last week: not hopeless, not stable, and not disciplined enough to trust. There is talent here. There is also weekly frustration built into the product.
Indianapolis Colts
1-2The Colts finally turned a close game into a win. Beating Houston 19-17 does not launch them into the middle class, but it does validate some of the patience from the first two weeks. Indianapolis has been competitive enough to avoid the basement; now it needs to show it can win without needing every possession to feel like a coin flip.
Arizona Cardinals
1-2Arizona lost, but the Cardinals were hardly embarrassed in a 36-30 game against San Francisco. That matters. The problem is that close losses only go so far when the team is now 1-2 and still trying to prove its Week 1 surge was more than a flash.
Green Bay Packers
1-2Green Bay’s 35-14 loss to Atlanta was one of the more damaging results of the week. It was not just a loss. It was the kind of loss that makes the previous overtime win over the Jets feel less like momentum and more like survival.
New Orleans Saints
1-2The Saints are better than their record in some ways, but losing 35-27 to Las Vegas still sends them down. Tyler Shough has kept this team interesting, and New Orleans has not been an easy out. Unfortunately, “interesting” does not carry the same weight as finishing games.
Cleveland Browns
2-1The Browns are 2-1, which is the important part. The less flattering part is that beating Carolina 21-18 does not exactly answer every question. Cleveland’s defense gives it a floor, and that is enough to climb, but the offense still limits how much excitement we can attach to the record.
New York Giants
2-1The Giants are 2-1 after beating Tennessee, and that matters. It is also hard to fully buy the climb when the win was 12-7 and the quarterback room is still being reshaped after the Jaxson Dart injury. The reported J.J. McCarthy addition gives New York another option, but it also confirms how unsettled things became quickly.
Atlanta Falcons
1-2Atlanta gets the biggest correction of the week. A 35-14 win over Green Bay is not a small adjustment; it is a complete reversal from the team that looked lifeless through two weeks. The Falcons still need to stack another performance before we fully trust it, but this was exactly the kind of response that earns movement.
Washington Commanders
1-2Washington beating Seattle 33-31 is the best single result from any team in this range. The Commanders still carry quarterback uncertainty around Jayden Daniels, which keeps them from jumping even higher. Still, knocking off the defending champs changes the conversation immediately.
Dallas Cowboys
1-2Dallas lost to Baltimore in Brazil, but a 34-31 defeat does not require a full teardown of the ranking. The Cowboys can score. They can also turn every week into a dramatic referendum on whether they are serious. That part is less ideal.
New England Patriots
1-2This is the danger of early trust. New England’s defense looked like a foundation after Week 2, then Jacksonville dropped a 35-6 reminder that the Patriots are not ready to live near the top ten yet. One ugly loss does not erase the roster, but it absolutely changes the temperature.
Los Angeles Rams
1-2The Rams were competitive in Denver, but 30-26 still counts as a loss. At 1-2, Los Angeles is stuck between “dangerous enough to beat almost anyone” and “not consistent enough to rank like a contender.” That is a frustrating place to live.
Detroit Lions
2-1Detroit’s 31-24 win over the Jets was useful because it looked like the Lions could win without needing an absurd shootout. The defense still has work to do, but the offense keeps providing enough answers. This feels like a team slowly stabilizing after a loud opening two weeks.
Chicago Bears
2-1The Bears needed that one badly. Beating Philadelphia 27-7 on Monday night is the kind of result that forces the rankings to react, even with the Caleb Williams situation still hanging over the offense. Chicago went from confusing to convincing in one national-window swing.
Cincinnati Bengals
2-1Cincinnati drops because losing to Pittsburgh changes the AFC North picture. The Bengals are still good enough to remain in the top half, but the defense-first Week 2 glow faded a bit in a 30-27 loss. This is not panic. It is a correction.
Pittsburgh Steelers
2-1The Steelers needed to prove the offense could do more than survive, and putting up 30 against Cincinnati qualifies. Pittsburgh’s Week 2 loss in New England still keeps this from becoming a full launch, but beating the Bengals gives the Steelers a much stronger argument than they had a week ago.
Philadelphia Eagles
2-1Philadelphia is still 2-1, and the Eagles have enough roster strength to avoid a dramatic fall. But losing 27-7 to Chicago removes the undefeated benefit of the doubt. The concern is not just that the Eagles lost; it is that they were handled.
Jacksonville Jaguars
2-1Jacksonville’s 35-6 win over New England was one of the cleanest statements of the week. The Jaguars had already shown their ceiling in Week 1 and their inconsistency in Week 2. Week 3 looked much more like the version worth taking seriously.
Seattle Seahawks
2-1The champs finally take a hit. Losing 33-31 to Washington is not enough to bury Seattle, but it is enough to remove them from the top spot. The Seahawks still have one of the league’s strongest overall résumés, but the margin at the top is too thin to survive a loss like that untouched.
Baltimore Ravens
2-1Baltimore still enjoys making everything more stressful than necessary. The Ravens beat Dallas 34-31 in Brazil, which is the important part, even if the path there was not exactly relaxing. The talent remains obvious. The weekly drama remains included.
Denver Broncos
2-1Denver’s win over the Rams was the kind of result that restores preseason faith. The Broncos have now beaten Jacksonville and Los Angeles after the Week 1 stumble, and that matters. This is starting to look less like a correction and more like the team people thought they were getting.
Minnesota Vikings
3-0Minnesota is 3-0, and style complaints can wait. The Vikings beat Tampa Bay 23-16 and have now stacked three wins in three different types of games. That matters more than whether every offensive possession looks clean.
Las Vegas Raiders
3-0The Raiders are officially no longer a fun early-season side story. They are 3-0 after beating New Orleans 35-27, and the Kirk Cousins/Klint Kubiak partnership has moved from curiosity to legitimate problem for the rest of the AFC. There are still tests coming, but the ranking has to catch up to the results.
Kansas City Chiefs
3-0Kansas City did what Kansas City usually does: handled business and kept moving. A 24-10 win over Miami was not the loudest result of the week, but it was controlled and professional. The Chiefs are unbeaten, efficient and still waiting for everyone else to talk themselves into doubting them.
San Francisco 49ers
3-0San Francisco survived Arizona 36-30 and stays right on Buffalo’s heels. The 49ers have not been flawless, but they are 3-0 with enough offensive answers to win different kinds of games. The defense can tighten things up, but the overall case is still elite.
Buffalo Bills
3-0Buffalo takes over the top spot. The Bills beat the Chargers 24-16, stayed undefeated and have the best blend of record, quarterback play and week-to-week credibility right now. Seattle’s loss opened the door, and Buffalo walked through it.
