CM Punk returns to SmackDown Advertised appearance ahead of Money in the Bank

As of Friday morning, the women’s tag title match is the only officially announced bout. The other listings are advertised appearances, not additional matches.

Fatal Influence vs. Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley

Women’s Tag Team Champions Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid of Fatal Influence defend against the unlikely partnership of Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley. The challengers have reason to believe they can win: Flair and Paxley beat the champions in a non-title match on the September 4 SmackDown, only for Fatal Influence to join a post-match attack on them and Alexa Bliss.

Now the belts are at stake. The champions have experience working together, while Flair’s pedigree and Paxley’s unpredictable offense make this more than a routine defense.

CM Punk Returns Ahead of Money in the Bank

CM Punk returns to SmackDown just one night before entering the men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match. He qualified by defeating Gunther and Finn Bálor in a Triple Threat Match on September 25.

Punk is one of six men chasing a contract that could change the world title picture. Kevin Owens earned the last spot on October 2, defeating Cody Rhodes and Johnny Gargano after Randy Orton interfered to stop Rhodes from winning. WWE has advertised Punk’s appearance, but no singles match for him has been announced.

All 12 Money in the Bank Competitors Under One Roof

WWE has announced that the entire field from both ladder matches will appear in Lafayette. The men’s lineup is CM Punk, Bron Breakker, Je’Von Evans, Trick Williams, Penta and Kevin Owens.

The women’s lineup is Sol Ruca, Lola Vice, Jacy Jayne, Roxanne Perez, Lash Legend and Tiffany Stratton. Stratton secured the final place in the women’s match last Friday by defeating Paxley and Candice LeRae in a Triple Threat qualifier.

With every contender advertised for the same show, the final confrontations could matter as much as the one confirmed match. A Money in the Bank winner earns a championship opportunity at a time of their choosing within the next year.

How to Watch WWE SmackDown Tonight

SmackDown starts at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. CT / 5 p.m. PT) on USA Network. In the United States, fans can watch through a television provider or a live-TV streaming service carrying USA Network. In applicable international markets, WWE SmackDown streams on Netflix; availability varies by country.

For U.S. viewers, SmackDown is on USA Network, not Netflix. Saturday’s premium live event uses different streaming arrangements.

What’s Next: Money in the Bank on Saturday

Money in the Bank takes place Saturday, October 10, at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, starting at 6 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. PT. The event streams through the ESPN App with an ESPN Unlimited plan in the U.S. and Netflix internationally in eligible markets.

In addition to the two ladder matches, WWE has advertised World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns vs. LA Knight, Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer vs. Becky Lynch vs. Liv Morgan, and Oba Femi vs. Bronson Reed.

What to Watch For

The women’s tag team titles could change hands, while Punk and Owens have an immediate opportunity to set the tone for Saturday’s ladder match. With 12 briefcase hopefuls under one roof, tonight’s SmackDown should provide its clearest look yet at the alliances and rivalries entering Money in the Bank.
