Receiving performance, with visible assumptions
FWI combines opponent-adjusted target EPA (50%), catch rate over expectation (25%), YAC over expectation (15%), and the rate of 20+ yard target plays (10%). Components are standardized within each eligible regular-season WR cohort. The combined score is scaled to a 50 average and a 15-point standard deviation, then bounded to 0–100.

Target-play EPA with opponent context capped at ±0.08 per target.
Catch efficiency
Actual catches relative to the source model’s expected completion probability.
YAC efficiency
Yards after catch above expectation, per matched reception.
Explosiveness
Primary receptions of at least 20 yards per target.
Validation
Coverage
The initial audit reconciles every WR target and reception. Eleven historical game records have unresolved yardage differences; their affected season records retain their statistics and have no FWI score. The initial current-season snapshot has no unresolved count or yardage differences.
What the validation shows
Testing across five complete adjacent-season pairs did not establish a consistent predictive advantage over target value alone. FWI v0.1 is a descriptive beta, not a forecast, a charted film grade, or an estimate of isolated receiver skill. Quarterback play, routes, blocking, and scheme still influence the inputs.
Routes run, separation, and charted drops are not part of the current source coverage. Missing values stay blank rather than being estimated.
