Things are coming to a head with Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings. After requesting a trade at the end of the season, Larkin has decided enough is enough, and it is time for a change. While he showed up to training camp, attended the home opener, and has played 10 games for the Red Wings, he feels it has been long enough for the team to complete a trade.

Thus, Dylan Larkin decided that after taking a maintenance day, he would not report back to the Red Wings and would hold out until a trade happens. Detroit Interim GM Shawn Horcoff announced that Larkin will be suspended without pay as the team continues talks, but will do what is best for the Red Wings.

On Tuesday, Jim Biringer of Full Press Hockey and NHLRumors.com joined Off the Rush on Pulse FM in Vancouver to discuss when the situation involving Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings will be resolved.

Host: “My next question was going to be about Dylan Larkin here. He’s played 10 games. He’s got six points on the season. Of course, we know what happened with Dylan Larkin: the training camp getting stripped of the C, the drama with the ownership and GMs and things like that. When can we see a resolution to the Dylan Larkin situation in Detroit? You talk about the Minnesota Wild needing a center. I know Larkin also expanded his no-trade clause to 10 teams. But when can fans around the league expect a resolution for Dylan Larkin’s situation?”

Jim Biringer: “Yeah, I think Chad is starting to pick up. I think now that Connor Hellebuyck, which was the first domino in all this, and yes, we know Larkin and Hellebuyck kind of put their trade request in at the same time. Larkin’s came out more publicly, but I think they want to get a resolution. Larkin didn’t hold out as Hellebuyck did. He showed up. He’s going to help the team. Wants to be a good soldier. All that.

He had a big tying goal in their win against Edmonton in the shootout. But you just look at it, and he wants a resolution. He hasn’t rescinded his trade request, despite what Detroit wants to do. Think it’s going to pick up over the next couple of weeks here. Think they want to get a resolution here. The phones have been picking up the trade chatter around Detroit, especially with the young defenseman Simon Edvinsson and the Larkin chatter.

I think the fact that there’s a reason why that 10-team no-trade list had become so public. People were guessing. I had always connected Carolina and New Jersey to Larkin just because of the needs and, you know, Eric Tulsky, and Carolina likes to operate. It just made sense listening to him at the Stanley Cup Final.

But I think the initial five teams really don’t have a lot. I think he really wants to go to Minnesota, but again, it goes back to Quinn Hughes. Is he going to stay? They talk all the time. Players talk.  Things happen, and they inform each other of their situations. But I think his top choice is Minnesota. But again, if New Jersey is going to put together a super team, he could end up there as well.

Again, Kris Draper is continuing to scout the Montreal Canadiens, so if he ever added Montreal to his list. This thing is done within 60 seconds. I think that’s how bad Montreal would trade for Dylan Larkin. So something to keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks.

Full Press Hockey Analysis: With Connor Hellebuyck traded to the New Jersey Devils, the focus shifted to the Detroit Red Wings. Larkin has not revealed why he wanted a trade, but it was clear from the start he didn’t want to be there anymore. Regardless of what was said and how things were handled on opening night, as mentioned on TSN Radio in Montreal, Larkin had his feet out the door. He is no longer part of the leadership group in Detroit.

It is a bad situation given the logo on the front of the sweater. As we saw in Winnipeg, Jets management and players didn’t want him there anymore. We heard what Adam Fantilli said about wanting players who want to be in the Columbus locker room, and it would be hard to play with a guy who didn’t want to be there.

As the Full Press Hockey Podcast has mentioned, while the players were receptive to having him back and understood his situation, it is hard to play with a guy who doesn’t want to be there. Larkin released a statement, putting pressure on the team to make a trade. The Red Wings fired back, suspending him without pay.

Teams like the New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild, Washington Capitals, Utah Mammoth, and others have been engaged in trade talks. We know the Montreal Canadiens would like to add him. Could a three-way trade be the way to resolve things?

However, trade talks are intensifying, and things could happen over the next couple of days as they look to finally resolve the situation.
