Don’t look now but the Redskins are making noise all of a sudden in the free agency world. After staying hush-hush in the first week, the front office is bringing in recently released players for visits.
This time it is Pernell McPhee.
After announcing that Orlando Scandrick and Johnathan Hankins were set to visit with the team on Monday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that that Redskins were bringing in edge rusher McPhee for a visit that was going to last from Sunday into Monday.

JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reported that McPhee will be taking his physical as early as 9am at Redskins Park on Monday morning.

As Jacob Camenker of Riggo’s Rag states in his article, McPhee has missed 12 games in the last three years.
Even though McPhee spends a lot of time on the injury list, he could be a pivotal player in the rotational spot for the Redskins. Even though McPhee has only played a full season one time in his career, he has recorded 21.5 sacks, with at least four sacks each year. With the Bears last season McPhee logged four sacks along with 21 total tackles in 13 games.
With the Bears releasing McPhee, they have freed up just over $7 million in cap space. He was set to make around $7 million with Chicago over the next two seasons.
The move to bring in McPhee could also be to pressure Junior Galette into a deal that Redskins seem fit for his abilities. However, if McPhee passes his physical, Washington could likely get a small deal done today before he leaves Redskins Park.
