ESPN’s primary Monday Night Football crew returns for the opener:

The group will also serve as ESPN’s lead NFL team throughout a season that culminates with the network broadcasting Super Bowl LXI.

Why Broncos-Chiefs Is a Big Week 1 Game

Denver enters 2026 after ending Kansas City’s nine-year run as AFC West champion last season. The Broncos went 14-3 and reached the AFC Championship Game, turning what had been a one-sided divisional hierarchy into one of the league’s most interesting rivalries again.

Kansas City, meanwhile, is attempting to rebound from a 6-11 season that ended its long playoff streak.

The biggest storyline will be Patrick Mahomes‘ return from the torn ACL and LCL he suffered last December. Andy Reid has indicated Mahomes is expected to start, giving Monday night its first look at whether the Chiefs’ franchise quarterback is already back to his usual form.

Denver counters with Bo Nix and a roster that enters the season with legitimate championship expectations.
