Vikings Draft Selections at the start:

Round 1 – #30
Round 2 – #30
Round 3 – #30
Round 5 – #30
Round 6 – #30, #39, #44
Round 7 – #7

Before the draft begins, I get two trade offers immediately, both from the Indianapolis Colts. The first offer is for their lowest second round selection (#17), their third and fourth round picks. The second offer were their top two selections in the second round (picks #4 and #5).

Given the depth and strength of the interior offensive line positions versus the needs of the other 31 teams, I know that I can only afford to trade down a ways without missing out on one of the players I covet. Unless there’s a massive run on linemen, I know I’ll be able to land one within the first 40 to 45 picks. No-brainer here.

Colts trade Round 2, picks #4 and #5 to Vikings for Round 1, pick #30.

Making this deal gives me three second round selections. With the two trade acquisitions coming in the first five selections of the round, I’m assured to get a shot at someone with first round potential while also making up for not having a fourth round selection.
